Even though the Bible clearly states he didn't? Shepherds don't watch their flocks in winter, etc.

And why do they also insist that Christmas belongs only to them and no one else?

Abner, the Gospels were not written until several decades after Jesus' death. So it's more than likely that many details and events were sketchy at best after that period of time. To my understanding (at least what I have been told by Jewish acquaintances), birthdays were not celebrated in their culture at that time.

Also, the calendar from that time, both Jewish and Roman, are not the equivalent of the Gregorian we have today. Which makes it impossible to say that dates were the same for each.

Christmas without religion is more than just a day to eat if that's what you want it to be. If you take Christ out of it (was he ever in it to begin with?), spending time with your family and whatever else you do has no meaning and is just a figment of your imagination that it is even going on?

Because they have no idea why we celebrate it on that day. They think that really is his birthday... they have no idea that it was celebrated on that day so that the Romans would think that they were actually taking part in the Yule festival.

EDIT:
It's past dear little Abner's bedtime, methinks.

The celebration of Christmas on December 25 was adopted from the Pagan celebration of the Winter Solstice. This adopted celebration was caused by the unification of Christians and Pagans after the Council of Nicea on 325 AD by order of Emperor Constantine.

Kids believe this because that is all they know, but most adults eventually learn that Dec 25 wasn't Christ's actual birth date.

Abner, Christ was not born on Dec 25. He was probably born sometime in September, but the exact date is unknown. Not everything in the BIble is to be taken literally.

What does it matter when Christ was born? The fact that he came and taught people how to come back to God is the important stuff, not merely his date of birth.

Wow, I'm a christian and I don't believe Jesus was born on Dec. 25th. I believe he was born in April. I don't belong to any religion or denomination, I've read the bible and the dates of Mary's conception and the time that John the babtist was born. Him and Jesus were cousins you know). Anyway that's how I made my decision about Christmas.

I love to celebrate Christmas, and so do the non-Christians of Thailand and Japan.

But let me turn the question around. Just because the Bible says or does not say something, does not mean it should be the standard for reality.

I'm not aware of any Christians maintaining that 12/25 is The Birth Date, but I'll ask around my small town. That will make me very popular, I am sure.

UPDATE: Apparently, this won't be necessary. Thanks for showing your ignorance of scripture on the www, Abner.

As to your other question, Christmas was stolen from the Pagans, but the US Government took it over when they announced it was a Federal Holiday.

Posession is 9/10ths of the law.

you know something maybe He was not born in Dec. But instead of arguing about dates, why don't you look into the truth about Him- why He came is far more important than when- and I never said you could not celebrate Christmas, but without CHRIST it is just another reason to spend money and eat food.

i dont know when Jesus was born (no proof for any time really) but i do count christmas day as the celebration of his birth

dont really think christmas day belongs only to christians either, people just celebrate it for different reasons i guess, i cant speak for others but i certainly dont resent 'non-christians' celebrating christmas

Well of course silly--there were lambs and there wouldn't be lambs in December. The Catholics named December 25 as the day of celebration, ergo we all do it.

Why do you use dating based on the birth of Christ? Same reason.
