You will have to choose or be given one of the three nuke ratings at school:

MMN= Machinist's Mate Nuclear
EMN= Electronics Mate Nuclear
ET= Electricians Technician Nuclear

When you have your rating that kind of decides what you do on the ship, electrical stuff or mechanical stuff.

All in all you work is done in one of two "plants" or reactors if you are on any carrier other than the USS Enterprise, they have 8 reactors not two.

You are charged with keeping very meticulous records that keep track of what the plant is doing. You do repairs when and if needed to different reactor systems.

You will learn everything there is know about how nuclear power works and how it used in school and then you will take that knowledge and apply it to real life nuclear power plants. On ships nuclear power is used to generate power for just about everything while the ship is underway.

You will spend a large part or your time continuing your learning and training as well. It is a very important job to the Navy and the civilian world as well.

When you are in port you are doing maintainance on the plant and training. While at sea you are running the operational plants to give all the aircraft carrier systems the power they need to run. When in port the ship is not under nuclear power but shore power.

Can't be too specific since most of what goes on below decks is classified but that gives you an in general idea.
Hope this helps.
