Hi,

I'm travelling to New York from Australia in early December of this year and I'm planning to take my mobile phone with me so I can use it over there. I've got a Nokia 6230 and it's on prepaid otherwise known as "pay as you go".

So I was wondering if anyone knows if I can take my phone to USA or not? Because I've used it in the UK and France where I've taken my simcard out and bought a card in that country and used their mobile number which I bought from a phone shop. And it works in the UK and France when I bought a UK mobile number.

So just wondering if my phone will work in New York or not?

Check with your phone company to make sure that global roaming is enabled, make sure your phone is compatible with the US networks (you may need a tri-band phone) and you are away. Voice calls can be expensive, but texting is good value.

A cheaper option is to buy a phone card when you are over there and use landlines. Much cheaper.

Also, if you are using your phones stored numbers, you will have to change them so they are +61 (area code) (number), otherwise they won't work.

Mine did. I just had the settings changed to "roam" when I was over there and used it just like I do here

The place is awesome, by the way
