Halfway down the trail to hell
In a shady meadow green,
Are the souls of all dead troopers camped
Near a good old-time canteen
And this eternal resting place
Is known as Fiddler's Green.
Marching past, straight through to hell,
The infantry are seen,
Accompanied by the Engineers,
Artillery and Marine,
For none but the shades of Cavalrymen
Dismount at Fiddlers' Green.
Though some go curving down the trail
To seek a warmer scene,
No trooper ever gets to Hell
Ere he's emptied his canteen,
And so rides back to drink again
With friends at Fiddlers' Green.
And so when man and horse go down
Beneath a saber keen,
Or in a roaring charge or fierce melee
You stop a bullet clean,
And the hostiles come to get your scalp,
Just empty your canteen,
And put your pistol to your head
And go to Fiddlers' Green.

Which Cav regiment?

Gotta bunch of buddies waiting for me at Fiddlers' Green; I toast 'em every time I raise a glass.

Thanks for posting that

Anyone vollunteering for the murderous military is vollunteering to kill, maime, and destroy the families of soldiers or civilians. It is murder, at the wish of some lying politican, still does not make it justified. A conscence after murdering does not bring back the sons and daughters murdered in the name of any cloth flag. If you are even a little religous ask yourself what army Jesus held a gun in? NONE. All soldiers in any other land other than their own home are murders, especially vollunteers and mercenaries now called "contractors". Go to Fiddler's Green also known as HELL, murders in the name of your selfish and misleading patriotism.

Very nice, but having been, I'd have liked to kick Hemmingway's hind end for having romaniticized it.
