I'm afraid of death, since death means that I will forever cease being, and even for another billion trillion gazillion years, there WILL NOT be "me" again. There's no waking from this eternal sleep. Indeed, there'll never be me again, wiped away from existence, decomposed, gone. It will mean that I'll never experience the riches of the Earth, the people, love, laugh, cry, reading books, playing games, displaying emotions etc etc. and ALL THAT will be gone. It will be a state of "being" before one's birth! I realize that I won't even have the feeling of being scared nor of being in a void or blackness (I won't even have a sensation of blackness or the sensation of being peacefully sleeping or resting, b/c even being sentient of that isn't true death). Even living in discomfort or pain would be better than not experiencing anything at all. Nothing is scarier than pure nothingness.

I want to believe: as humans we can live in a technologically-advanced age, no war, and being immortal??

I remember reading about one person who'd planned to live forever. His plan was something like this,

1. Take very good care of his current body so as to live to the era when medicine is able to repair failing organs (e.g. reverse or temporize the effects of aging on the key organs like the heart).
2. Take advantage of this technology to prolong his life until medicine is able to entirely replace failing organs with artificial substitutes (e.g. artificial hearts).
3. Take advantage of this technology to prolong his life until its possible to download his consciousness into a computer.
4. Stick around in the computer until humanity has figured out a way to turn the consciousness into a free-floating ethereal being.
5. Float about the universe for all eternity, enjoying immortality.

Sounds like a good idea to me. The only trouble is that you might have to save up a lot of money for this plan. If our descendants are as capitalistic as we are, all of these procedures are going to cost a lot of $$$ and probably won't be provided free of charge to old geezers who, from the point of view of our descendants, ought to have been long dead already.

Best of luck to you!

Death is a part of life. If you think about it, it is impossible to become immortal. It's kind of like trying to keep a car forever. You can replace the pieces, but not all of them. All of the pieces will eventually wear out, and the car will break down. We probably can transplant organs and other body parts to live longer but remember some body parts can't be replaced, like the brain. Discomfort or pain is not better than death, because my grandpa starved to death. It was torture in his eyes. Death is a part of life, and the only reason we fear it is because we have no clue what is after it or what it is like. When I think of death, I think of what its like when im not born. Good luck with Death. Oh yeah the only thing eternal is God (that is if you believe in God) or numbers. Nothingness is also eternal.

For what you are describing to occur, it would almost require the end of any new life. Every cycle in nature has a pattern of renewal and breakdown. It seems like it would upset the balance in the world to stagnate the population such as you describe. That, too, is a scary thought. Hopefully, understanding that the time you have on Earth is temporary, you will be motivated to use the time well. I understand how you feel, but if you find yourself obsessing over it, you need to have a way to clear your mind.

Every person who ever lived on this earth died. Its the natures' decision. We cant change it. Even the most advanced technology cant make a person immortal.
So stop being afraid of death and just enjoy each and every day that comes by.

You need to see your psychiatrist urgently, if you're so scared of death. It is GOOD TO DIE after a life spanning a period of about 80 years, after which most people still alive become more of a monster than human. The human body is no more than a machine designed for a specific purpose and duration. Trying to outlive that purpose will do you more harm than good.
