Depressed, yes. Embarrassed, no. If I shared those superstitions, I'd have reason to be embarrassed.

Positive thinking? Yes! All the way.

Well prayer can be a form of positive thinking really. People pray because that's their way of coping and dealing with things, a way to release their thoughts, feelings, needs, desires, wants, etc. Prayer gives them the belief that these things will happen to them or whatever, e.g. cured of cancer or some other thing they have prayed for and that in itself is a sort of positive thought. After people pray they generally feel and think better.

I wouldn't say I am embaressed to be part if a still superstituous society. To me that is simply irrelevant, because I think be and let be (each to their own) i.e. I think people can do what they want and think what they won't so long as it isn't harming me personally or others.

I don't mind the society part so much as the family. I'm related to some of those clowns, and fairly closely, too.
