My dog hit her paw on something, although I'm not sure what. Yesterday it was fine and just had a cut on the joint where the paw and leg meet. I guess it would be our elbow?
But today she didn't put pressure on it and it's swollen. Should I wait another day to see if it goes down or should I take her to an emergency vet? The regular vets aren't open tomorrow because of Thanksgiving.
Oh and we can touch it and everything and it doesn't seem to hurt her. Like I said, I'm only concerned that's it's swollen and she's not putting weight on it. Even though she was fine when it happened and all day yesterday.

Well it's 3 in the morning and when I went to bed, it was fine.
When she followed me to the bathroom, I realized she was limping. That's why I haven't taken her...

Oh! Ok I see where you got that from now. Like I said, I just woke up. By today, I meant like just now... sorry, it's too early.

The thing is, she doesn't appear to be hurting. She's fine when we touch it. She's just not walking on it.

I would try to put a cool compress on the hurt area for the first 48 hours, just like I'd do for myself. Then put warm on it after that. If the dog isn't better by Monday, take her in. Or is she gets radically worse, like fever, loss of appetite, depression and not wanting to get up to go out. If you are really worried today, try calling the on-call vet to ask what to do.
Sorry that your dog is hurting. Dogs generally do get better on their own fast, if it 's not too serious.

Hun your`e dog always has to come first no matter what when they are in pain. It is swollen and the dog cut the paw so it could be the start of an infection or it could be just a swelling the same as us humans get if we do the same thing. The first thing we do with our kids is take them to the DR or the hospital but for some reason we wait with our dogs to see if they are OK. Dogs feel pain just like you and I, so any time your dog is is pain and you are asking should I take it to the vets the answer is yes, every time without fail.
Our vets is more than happy to see our dogs even if it turns out nothing is wrong, and if he just looks and says no he is fine there is no charge at all. Better to be safe than sorry and at least you can enjoy Thanksgiving without worrying about her.

Anytime you ask yourself this....the answer is yes...take the dog to the vet. See how she is tomorrow and if she is still acting this way about the injury... use your own judgment...you know your dog better than any of us do here. If you think she is uncomfortable and in pain, I would see about having her have a vet look at it right away. Good luck!

My standard answer for this kind of a question is that if you have to ask someone if you should take your dog to the vet, then yes take your dog to a vet. The peace of mind from getting your dog medical attention is worth it.

hey
well my opinion is i think you should go to a vet if she can't walk no it, but if she can walk wait another day and see if the swelling gos down!!~like maybe she could of sat in a pile of bullants and got bitten!!but even if that did happen i think you should still take her to the vet like today or tomorrow

Unless you have a show dog or a dog that needs to work, I would wait a few day for the swelling to go down. Keep the dog in a confined place away from other pets so the foot can rest. This has always worked for me.

If this were my dog I would have already gone to the vet. How else will you help it heal if not without the proper medical attention?

Yes take her to the vets. there is something wrong if it's swollena nd she isn't using it.
I hope it really isn't anything but if it is broken or fractured you don't want to wait.
