For those who doubt his existence, Jesus was real.
1) Jesus kicked the money changers and the various other hawkers from the temple, which was about the last major thing he did before he was arrested.
2) This is completely wrong. Jesus didn't die because of where he lived, nor for the fact the Romans didn't agree with his beliefs, he died because he was arrest for no reason at all, interrogated for no reason at all, brought to trial on a trumped up charge, found guilty following a trumped up trial by a weak kneed judge, and condemned to death by a popularity contest. The Romans only carried out the wishes of the local populous.
3) People certainly spoke there minds then, just as they do now. Being outspoken wasn't what caused the problems, it was because he was right that caused the problems.

Jesus didn't die, according to the beliefs of Christians (that would be me).
The temple priests wanted Jesus dead, because His teachings differed from the conventional religious wisdom of the day. (The same thing is happening in our society by the way--intolerant religious leaders want things their way and no other).
The Romans did not especially want Jesus dead. While they tolerated no opposition to their rule, the Romans were actually fair and just. As long as you broke no Roman law and paid Roman taxes, you could do as you liked. On the other hand, Roman military resources were spread pretty thin (sort of like the Americans in Iraq) and the last thing the Roman governor wanted was a bunch of religious trouble.
I would stay away from the final hypothesis, about Jesus being more outspoken than others. Just staying alive was a full time job in those hard days, and people had no time for religious discussions. In any case, very few people, except the priests and the children of rich people, had any education.
Jesus was crucified as an atonement for all of our sins. God needed that so we could all be saved, and Jesus willingly sacrificed Himself for us all.

Jesus died because:
1. The Jews accused him of blasphemy before the Jewish religious court because he claimed to be equal with God. Blasphemy is punishable by capital punishment by stoning in Jewish law. But the Jews were not allowed by the Romans to carry out this punishment.
2. So the Jews accused him before the Roman court for sedition and rebellion. This was punishable by death under Roman laws. He was crucified.

1. To fulfill prophecy.
Daniel 9:26
And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself:
compare Matthew 27 and John 19 with Psalm 22
2. To provide propitiation for sins.
Leviticus 14:13
And he shall slay the lamb in the place where he shall kill the sin offering and the burnt offering, in the holy place: for as the sin offering is the priest's, so is the trespass offering: it is most holy:
3. To show the nature of God:
Isaiah 45:21
Declare what is to be, present it— let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD ? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me.
4) To be the kinsman redeemer:
Ruth 4:14
The women said to Naomi: "Praise be to the LORD, who this day has not left you without a kinsman-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel!
5) To take power away from the devil:
Hebrews 2
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
6) To grant the heirs of the Will a time to be granted what the will says:
Hebrews 9
16 In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, 17 because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. 18 This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood.
( This ties into the reason why the Law of Moses was practiced in the way it was practiced.) Hence:
Hebrews 9
22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. 23 It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
7) And so to provide a better sacrifice than that of the Levitical Law:
Hebrews 9
27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.
There are many more reasons I could come up with, but I am not sure if you would read all of them. I hope that helps you with the answer.

There are lots of different views on this. Most religions have the one 'true' reason, that he died to redeem man from sin.
But I believe in Jesus not as a prophet or God, but as a historical figure. If you read the four gospels of the New Testament as -history- the reason for his death is pretty well spelled out.
After traveling around the countryside to small villages and towns for a couple of years, healing the sick, raising the dead and performing miracles, Jesus came to Jerusalem for the Jewish holiday of Passover. He visited the Temple, the holy shrine of his own faith, and was upset at what he saw there. Powerful religious leaders had sold out to secular power, for their own self-aggrandizement, their own wealth and power they had conflated a political message with their religious one. In his travels and teaching, Jesus had dealt with sin, human failing, even disbelief without losing his cool, but this really made him mad and he said some things. So these powerful religious leaders had him put out of the way.
I am not a Christian so my beliefs about Jesus are not based on what I've been taught, but what I've read from many sources, not the least being the New Testament itself. I believe (though this is certainly not a Christian belief!) that Jesus's death came as a shock and surprise to his followers, and it was -then- that they developed the story about Jesus dying for our sins. Jesus never actually says "I've come to die for your sins" or anything like that. He refers to the 'Son of Man', a reference to a very ambiguous passage in the book of Daniel, and says the Son of Man must be rejected (not killed), and sometimes this reference seems to be 3rd person and sometimes 1st person. He is supposedly executed for claiming to be the King of the Jews, but at his trial he never says he is, in fact he even takes the trouble to point out that it is the prosecution that makes this claim, not himself.

Well, ultimatly he died to provide the final blood sacrifice to atone for our sins.
Politically, he was believed to be blasphemeous. He was Jewish, sent to the Jewish ppl to be their spiritual king. But he came in a very humble manner. The jews expected him to come with all this clout and take over. So the Jews did not believe him when he said he was their king and they called him blasphemous and a false prophet. Pilote knew he was the son of god, but let the people tie his hands. He offered to release either jesus or a murderer, and the people choose to release the murderer, bc they believed Jesus was blasphemous and a false prophet - worse than a murderer. Pilote 'washed his hands' and did as the ppl asked.
If you are writing a paper on Jesus and the circumstances of his death, perhaps you should actually read the Bible.

Jesus died to provide a way for us to overcome physical and spiritual death.
He died on the cross, allowing evil men to prosecute Him wrongly and suffer death. The miracle of this is that He rose from the tomb on the third day and and made it possible for us to live again one day.
He also paid the price for the sins of all mankind. We have the opportunity to claim redemption from sin through obedience. This means that we can overcome the human aspects of ourselves that distance us from God, our Father.
This is the most wonderful that has happened, as far as our existence is concerned. It means that a way is prepared for us for our eternal progression, that we can one day be able to return to God's presence, having been purified of our own free will in accepting Christ's atonement.
I think that answers your question. I think that you might be asking why did He left himself be killed. Why He, being the son of God, would let them take him and kill Him. Like I said before, it was out of love. It was for us. It was the ultimate strength of spirit over body, the ultimate love, the ultimate altruism (www.dictionary.com) It is the ultimate sacrifice that demands my life, my service to be sure that as many people as I can, should know what I know and realize that there is a love for them greater than they can ever fully realize.
Do you understand, how much worth you have? Do you know how much you matter to God, if His perfect Son came to earth to die for you, so you can live again after you die, so you can grow and become clean from your mistakes? I think it's wonderful news. Did you know that "gospel" means, literally, "good news"? The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Good News of Jesus Christ. I am glad to know about it.

Jesus was executed because he was a cult leader, just like Dave Koresh, just like Jim Jones. He made outrageous claims, he developed a large following, and he challenged the authority of the existing power structure. We know what the powers-that-be do to such people, and why.

Jesus died because he had big nails hammered into his extremities. At least, that's supposed to be how the story went. There is no real evidence that Jesus ever existed at all.
