Put the ham in the pot with a sliced onion, a couple of sliced carrots and some potatoes either cut up or left whole. Cover with boiling water.

Don't put any salt on it as there'll probably be enough already in the meat.

Leave on a medium setting for 6 to 8 hours. After about 4 hours push a sharp knife into the centre of the meat and you'll be able to judge how well the meat is cooking. If the meat still feels hard, increase the temperature or the cooking time. If the knife goes into the meat with little resistance reduce the temperature and / or the cooking time.

We live in Turkey and, because it's a Muslim country, it's almost impossible to buy good ham. One of the few things that we really miss about the UK.

Enjoy your meal.

Turn it on low so that the ham cooks slowly, ham loses it's flavour when cooked too fast, leave it on for at least six hours. It depends a lot on the size of the ham and the minimum setting of your crock pot, my old Swan pot takes about 8 hours to cook a ham on low setting.
If you don't have the original instructions with the cooker do a search on the internet as many manufacturers include them on-line in PDF form, as well as some basic recipes.
The websites below have some good recipes.

My mother used the crock pot every sunday for our dinner meal. It's amazing because you just put it in, turn it on, and everything is done 5-7 hours later. Her most common meal was smoked ham and green beans, occasionally with small pearl onions.

The settings on them all are different, so I'd suggest putting it on a slow cook or simmer setting. This will not allow it to boil, and will cook you're ham and vegetables thoroughly with little work on your part.

You can really put in whatever you like, but the most common is lots of vegetables, chicken breast (with or without bones) or ham. Green beans usually go best with ham, but my mother also would put in red potatoes (with skin) and quartered carrot chuks. With chicken, you can add cream of chicken for a creamier texture, and cut your vegetables into small or large chunks. Remember if you put chopped tomatoes in the mixture, it will definitely create a more acidic soup much like a marinara or chili sauce.

Don't be afraid to experiment, just try to avoid too much seasoning with high heat. The seasoning will gather at the top and create an undesirable froth that will not look appetizing and will get in the way of the good stuff. Enjoy!

Put in some water, perhaps with a can of chicken stock.
The ham does not need to be completely submerged.
You can put some of those little potatoes and carrots in with it, and preferably some pearl onions.
It needs a tight lid.

Depending on size and when you need to serve it. Try cooking it on "high" for the first 4 hours, turn the ham over, cut into it and see how well it is done, and see how much longer it needs to be on.
You can back it down to "low" when it gets done on both sides to keep it warm and tender.

Save the drippings (grease) for making gravy.

Cured ham is already cooked, so you are reheating and flavoring it, so the other things (raw) determine the cooking time. If you are talking a raw pork cut (picnic ham), most are so big and so fatty, doing them in a crock pot would be a real challenge.

Turn it on low and wait until its done, if you have that kinda time. If not, put it on high and only eat the warm part.
