Well . . there is no cure for all cancers, that is true. And, the reason is because cancer is a mutation of the DNA in each individuals cells. What people fail to understand is that just because there is not one overall cure for the disease, does not mean that there is no treatment. Keep in mind that there is no cure for the common cold either.

Even though there is no cure for cancer, there is treatment that can lead to individual remission and cure. Cancer is a progressive disease and if found early, can be removed and essentially 'cured'. Cancer starts out very small and at the first three stages of the disease has the potential to be cured or put into remission using chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery.

When people think of cancer . . they almost always think of advanced cancers . . and they are the most difficult to treat and most difficult to 'cure'. It is stage IV cancer that the public thinks of as 'cancer' . . and fail to make the distinction about the stages. The reason that stage IV or advanced cancer has such a bad reputation is because it becomes mobile (metastatic). . the mutated cells can travel through the blood or lymphatic system, lodge in another part of the body, and start new tumors. This is difficult to treat and cure. However, there are patients who have had stage IV disease 'cured . . (Lance Armstrong was a stage IV patient over ten years ago). So, there are individuals who respond well to chemotherapy, radiation, and can have their tumors totally resected . . and that can lead to cure. But there is not a guarantee that every individual will respond in the same way due to the unique chemical make up of each and every person. Cancer almost needs to be treated on an individual basis. That is why it is so difficult to find effective treatments for all patients, all the time, and why it is not considered 'curable' at this time. Research is ongoing though, and there are now newer medications coming along. One of the more recent goals has been to find medication to CONTROL the cancer, much the way that diabetics can control diabetes with insulin. Thus, in some cases cancer is becoming a chronic disease that can be controlled by proper medication. (Incidentally . . there isn't any cure for diabetes or many other diseases either . .it isn't just cancer).

What seems to be happening within research for cancer at the moment is that attention is being drawn to the unique proteins found within the various types of tumors. The tumors need the protein in order to exist, without they die. Research and clinical trials have focused on targeting those unique proteins for each type of cancer . . and . . unfortunately there is not enough money to study each type of cancer (think of it as studying over 200 different diseases and not just one). Most research money and funding has gone for only one or two types of cancer (breast, lung, colon) and not all the others.

Take a close look at a new drug called Imatinib Mesylate to see its effect on chronic myeloid leukemia and gastrointestinal stromal tumor.

Research continues.

The short answer to this is, yes. Many people are cured of their cancers - but unfortunately some are not.

There are three important factors which affect the chance of having a cure: the type of cancer, how 'advanced' that cancer is when it is discovered, and how well the cancer responds to treatment.

Cancer is not a single disease. There are hundreds of different types of cancer and each of these different types has different chances of cure. So, for example, cures are very common in conditions like breast cancer, bowel cancer, testicular cancer, skin cancer and Hodgkin lymphoma, but they are much less common in cancers of the lung, pancreas and stomach.

For any one type of cancer, a tumour that is diagnosed when it is small and has not spread at all will always have a better chance of a cure than one that is only discovered when it is more advanced, and has grown to a large size and sent seedlings, called secondary cancers, to other parts of the body. So, for example, a bowel cancer that has not spread beyond the lining of the wall of the bowel is usually completely cured by an operation whereas a bowel cancer that is only found when it has already sent seedlings to the liver is only rarely curable. On the other hand, with cancers that are very sensitive to treatment, such as Hodgkin lymphoma or testicular cancer, most people can still be cured even when the cancer has developed widespread secondaries.

It is important to mention that modern cancer treatments are also improving cure rates. Many kinds of cancer that were almost always incurable fifty years ago are now routinely cured by modern day therapies.-

There is no cancer in heaven that God would afflict "HIS " children. The word in the Old Testament that says God would bring these curses upon them who disobey Him is not causative, but rather permissive. And even if the Lord does permit a professing christian, to be afflicted, the scripture says to that one to pray, James 5: 13, and if he doesn't know how to pray the prayer of faith, and it turns to an infirmity (sick) let him call for the elders of the church; " And let them pray over him, anointing his head with oil, in the name of the Lord; And the prayer of faith shall heal the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed any sins, they shall be forgiven him. Notice why one can be afflicted verse 16 "Faults" When we have faults and they go un attended and we allow them to persist, it becomes a BIG "May" 1 Peter 5: 8 "May devour" If you have been risen with christ seek those things where Christ is seated; God didn't save us to live in the world after the things of the world, but that we might attained to the purpose of God for making amn Romans 8: 28-29, 1 Thessalonians 4: 1-5 should be known and a determined indeavorment. Sin is not only look upon by God as a work of the flesh, but also infirmity a sickness is an attack of satan, who comes to steal , kill and destroy. We are in a warfare, and not in a utopia yet. Some forms of cancer are not curable. The ones that are not, either grow so rapidly, they are not discovered until they have affected too many areas.

Some cancers, grow slow and can be cured.

Many pharmaceutical labs are working on cures. It takes years of research and development. Then they have to do double blind drug studies. It takes a long time to evaluate the results of these. Then they have to go for FDA approval.
There may be cures for some types of cancer now, but they aren't yet available to the general public.

It's because we would rather spend money killing people in war, spend money going to the moon, spend money on other countries, and spend money on other stupid and worthless causes instead of taking that money and finding a cure for cancer and saving millions of lives. So why is there not a cure for cancer? It's because our government is run by morons.

Cancer, as you say, is hundreds of diseases, not just one. The difficulty is that different cancers are caused by different things, so no one strategy can prevent them, and different cancers respond to different treatments so no one treatment can cure them all

Quite a few cancers can be cured these days though. Cancer Research UK says that 7 out of 10 children are cured of cancer. Testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy.

Many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough - 75% of breast cancers found at stage one for example. There is still a long way to go, especially with some of the commonest types of cancer such as lung, breast, bowel and prostate cancer.

Many people – invariably those who have not had cancer or been close to it - have pet theories about what causes and prevents it, and how to treat it. Existing treatments - chemotherapy and radiotherapy - are not perfect, far from it, but we know, because they have been clinically tested and proven, that they save some lives and extend many others.

There's no conspiracy to hide or prevent a cancer cure in order to maximise profits, as Paramedic Girl has suggested. The conspiracy theory is an urban myth, a sort of game played by those who have not had cancer or close experience of it. Think about it, if there were such a conspiracy:

*whoever discovered the cure would be keeping quiet, even though it would bring them fame and fortune.

*every medical professional in the whole world would have agreed to keep the cure secret. Every single one. One blabbermouth, one disgruntled researcher or sacked nurse and the whole conspiracy’s blown.

*the thousands of people who would have to have been cured by it in order to prove it worked would be keeping quiet about it too. Newspapers and other media wouldn't have got a sniff of it.

*doctors, scientist, researchers etc would be watching their relatives die and dying themselves (they and their families develop cancer at the same rate as the rest of the population) even though they knew of a cure

There is much research going on in all types of cancer to try and find a cure. Biological therapies such as cancer vaccines, monoclonal antibodies and gene therapies are all active areas of research. There is also research into how cancers grow their own blood supplies. Researchers are beginning to test 'anti-angiogenic' drugs that may be able to stop that happening and so stop cancers from growing. Of course you still have to find them early enough for this to be a cure. But there is hope that this treatment may also stop cancer secondaries from developing. Dedicated hard work by the very people the conspiracy theorists claim are trying to hide a cure.

I have a feeling a cure has been found, but too much money is being made by it all.... the drug companies, the jobs it gives, all of the fundraisers, etc
If they had a cure the government and a whole wack of agencies would be out of money and jobs. So why would they be honest? They know cigarettes are deadly and a huge cause for cancer, but the government allows it and doesnt pull them from the shelf because its a money pot.
