smoking is bad, its the biggest contribution to dieases of any organ in the body mainly
lungs
heart
i used to smoke but i stopped 18yrs ago, im 52 now, but i dont reek of stale smoke on hair and clothes, i can taste my food better, i have started with heart problems but i was born with them, but because i dont smoke i guess my recovery will 40% higher than if i did smoke, and i know of three surgeons in a leeds hospital who refuses to do op's if you smoke, he has actually said, what is the point, doing what i have to do, when you smoke still, you are undoing all what i am trying to put right, to give you a better life-style and quality of life, he's not refused doing what he does, but warns their outlook, is lesser, than a non-smoker, why do you think, tobacco adverts are banned, why do you think, in england, scotland wales ireland smoking is banned, in cafes, public places, and you have to be 18, now to buy cigs tobacco, even in hospital grounds you can not smoke, because eventually it kills, and gives llife-long serious disease, yes non-smokers can suffer same problems, thats because they are breathing all that smoke you smokers blow out of your mouths.
so try to stop if i can do it, so can you.

Fozzed, I agree to an extent. As soon as they knew cigarettes cause cancer, the product should have been banned. Especially as it has no purpose other than pleasure. I mean, they know that compounds in gasoline can cause cancer too, but gasoline has a purpose that can't, at this time, be replaced.
Still, at some point within the past 40 years, it must have become obvious (perhaps from the fact that everyone has been saying it loud and clear) that tobacco is deadly. So from the moment of that awareness on, we each made the choice to continue to use a deadly product.
The tobacco companies sell a legal product. The people who work for those companies have to deal with their own consciences. The legislators who allow the product to still be sold, must too.

I grew up in Richmond, VA - home of Philip Morris (think marlboro, newport, Va slims, etc.) i started smoking at 14 (dont do it kids!). But... i dont feel the tobacco industry is responsible. Actually, in 1994, philip morris sponcered several programs that sent people out into schools to talk about the dangers of cigarettes, and give high school age kids pamphlets on the subject. So thats strike one against me for knowing better. Strike 2 comes from the fact in 1963, when my mother was 13, HER mother died of lung cancer (before they knew what lung cancer REALLY was.) my mother had told me what smoking does, and how it effects peoples lives. Strike 3 comes from my doctors, when i had bad asthma, high blood pressure, and what not at the tender age of 20. Yes, a lot of it was obesity, but it wasnt helping that i was smoking.

They should have been when it was verified many years ago that smoking does lead to cancer, and has caused many thousands perhaps millions of deaths. Of course the revenue this government gets in taxes means they don't interfere, putting money before people as per usual.

Well yes, they lied.....but they have been telling us that was a LIE for over 30 years. So, if you are still smoking, you can't blame that on the tobacco companies.
You've known for a LONG time that cigarettes cause cancer and kill and yet you've continually chosen to smoke.
Free-will, baby. Ain't it GRAND???

I smoke my first cigarette at nine years old and my last one, a year and half ago at age 52. I went to a doctor once who was smoking a cigarette while he was giving me an exam, but I blame no one except myself.

If the government knows that smoking kills (which they do!) they should of taken it off the shop shelves and made it illegal a long time ago. They just do it for the tax, I blame the government!!
