Get him a watch with an easy to use alarm on it. It may take a couple of settings, but it he normally pees an hour after drinking, the first set the alarm for 55 minutes. Then shorten or lengthen the timeas necessary . It will remind him to be on the look out, without embarrassing reminders in front of friends.
Good luck, broken legs, thankfully don't last forever.

Get him a urinal! It is a light weight, plastic container with a handle that he can use on his own for liquid elimination. For bowel movements I am certain he knows when he needs to go, so you can help him onto the pot or a bedside commode when needed. If he has one broken leg, then he is weight bearing on the other and can help transfer himself to the commode.

Install those bars they have in hospitals - you can get a set that sits on the floor and isn't permanently installed.

Tell him to try going every two hours whether he needs to or not - it will help.

Get him what they call a "travel Potty" for men- he can use that, then empty and rinse it out.

He is a teenager and knows when its time to go to the bathroom. You can help him pushing his wheelchair in the bathroom and sit him on the pot. If he doesn't like it, then put some "Depends" on him.

Ever thought about one of those things they use for bed ridden men in the hospital? Or a portable potty?
