I set to join the Navy Nuke program and I was wondering after ALL the schools and I graduate, where might I be stationed. Im from south Georgia and would not like to be somewhere acroos the country or overseas.Other than Norfolk, VA, are there any other naval bases on the east coast that Nucs might have a choice of being stationed at? Also I would like to know, are the homeports of many nuclear aircraft carriers only the ports where they could be docked at for the 6months intervals? I' meaning could a ship from Norfolk be in port at Mayport, Fl and I get that as my Naval Station.

Only if you go subs then you may get Kings Bay, GA.

Other than that ALL nuclear aircraft carriers are homeported in Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, Everett, WA or Bremmerton, WA.

DO NOT choose a ship based on home. In reality it will be just as easy for you to get home from San Diego as it will be from Norfolk.

Homeports are homeports. That is where the ship will be whenever it is not deployed. Mayport, FL will not be one of your choices. The only aircraft carrier to be stationed there was the NON-nuclear USS John F. Kennedy and that ship has been decommissioned.

There is a big world out there that you will really begin to love seeing and experiencing. There is nothing wrong with Norfolk, but the other 4 bases are great also.

Experience life and the world, not home. You will actually be surprised how much you don't go home and how much it really doesn't get to you once you are away doing your job and living your life.

If you want to make the most out of your Navy career and true life experience don't pick any Norfolk orders. You know what the east coast looks like, go check out the rest of the country.
CA and WA are beautiful places that offer things you could only dream of on the east coast. Norfolk on the otherhand offers you pretty much the same stuff you have at home with more crime and millions of other Sailors, Soldiers, Airmen and Marines. Believe me you may get tired of living in a huge military town.

We are in VA right now, but I am from CA and went to college in WA. I have seen all parts of the country and I know what a great experience the Navy has given me by allowing me to live outside my box and live in new places.

Fast attacks - Groten Ct, San Diego CA, Pearl Harbor HI
Tridents - Bangor WA, Kingsbay GA
Carriers... I know Everett WA, Bremerton WA, San Diego CA, Norfolk?
After that I'm not really sure.

The carriers generally use the same home port for most of there 6 month periods. The only place I've heard otherwise is up in Washington. A friend of mine was stationed on a carrier in Everett but they pulled into Bremerton so much more that that's where he lived.

How about the submarine base in Kings Bay, Georgia. There are nuclear missile boats homeported there and it is a really nice base. There is not much in the neighboring towns, but Jacksonville is only about a half hour away.

There are fast attack boats out of Groton, Conn.

After your finish all the schools, you get to fill out a duty preference sheet (aka dream sheet). You could list King's Bay first, Groton second. But in the end, the Navy will send you where you are needed. Finishing high in your class will help alot; you get to pick duty stations before others behind you.

You would possibly not get stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan however you'll install there for a 4 to 6 month excursion. If you get stationed in Japan you would install to Iraq from Japan (like a few Airmen I labored with at the same time in Camp Bucca, Iraq final 12 months). If you're scared to move over there then you should not become a member of since everyone becoming a member of the US Armed Forces can get despatched to a fight zone.
