After you install Vista, you need to install all your motherboard and Video drivers, if the Video card is not built-in to the motherboard.

To find the correct drivers, you need the Make AND model of your motherboard AND video card. To do this, I use the Belarc Advisor, free from:

Then, go to the respective manufacturer's website and download them.

Some older programs are not supported in Vista. It causes programs buttons drop lists, textbox, etc, to look weird. Run the Program Compatibility Wizard and watch out for Vista Service Pack 1

I wish you all the luck in the world. I bought a brand new, $800 Dell computer in May that had Vista preinstalled. It has been nothing but a nightmare, lots of compatability issues. Especially with Microft Office and Internet Explorer!!

I also upgraded to Vista. It is the biggest mess I've ever seen.
My printer quit working and I had to download new drivers. My computer is Vista capable, but what it doesn't say is that you have to download new drivers for things to actually work.
I even tried to take Vista off, but it wouldn't come off.
I feel for ya.

Messenger definately works with Vista, maybe you have to get a newer version of Messenger or just reinstall it. Since it can't connect maybe you have a problem with your firewall or even internet connection.
