Well have the best of both worlds. Join the Corps, and tryout for Force Recon company. They are very highly trained, and you will still have the pride of being one of the few. Remember if your gonna be a bear, be a grizzly.

I would say go Army. I am marine grunt and if you are wanting to go infantry I would suggest army. We are under funded and get the short end of the stick on just about everything. You put up with a lot of nonsense just so those in charge look better. It is aggravating and a pain to do stuff you are told even though you and everyone else knows it can be done better a different way. If infantry isn't the MOS you want then it really isn't a bad life from what I have been told by non infantry (pog's). The pride thing you will have no matter what service you choose. Marines have no more pride for serving then any other service. We just have hard lives while we serve but that doesn't make us different or better then our brothers in other branches that serve. We just hate life a little more then anyone else.

I wanted to be a Marine in the infantry but I was 2 college credits short since I have a GED. So after I joined the Army Infantry the Marines called me back but it was too late. If I get the 2 credits and I like the military I might be a Marine next time, but I'm going to try to be an Army Ranger this enlistment. I have many friends in both service and mad respect for both services.

The army is more specialized yet more multi-role. The marines are basically the light assault- they have very few tanks, weaker ordinance and centered on mobility. The army are the heavy assault- they have an astronomical number of tanks, wicked-powerful ordinance and also have the airborne divisions.

Here's a good list for you:

1: Army Airborne (101st)
2: Army Paratroopers (101st and 82nd)
3: Army Armor (Almost every division)
4: Anything Marines

But the ULTIMATE Army job is flying Apache gunships. Those things are like the lungs that support the army body. With every hellfire shot, 100 men make it through their mission swimmingly. With every hellfire shot, $10,000,000 of the enemy's funds are wasted.

Structurally, this is how it works:

In the army, you are trained to the best of your abilities and everything is done more professionally from start to finish, and a backup is always ready.

In the marines, you basically get your *** kicked until you pass their expectations, and everything is done on the fly as if it hand't been planned out from the beginning, but they make do.

In case you don't already know, the Apache is superior to the Cobra.

I am a Marine and enjoyed my time in the corp but the best thing for you to do is talk to recruiters from every branch; even the Coast Guard and find out who will make you the best deal.

You never know what skill they need at the current time or what job openings each particular branch may have.

Keep an open mind and get as much information as you can in writing before you make such a huge descision.

Thanks in advance for serving your country.

U S M C but understand what you might be in for.I'm a former Marine SGT,a sq leader 0311 from Vietnam 68 69 and its a feeling that will never leave you once you've been one of the few. Therefore my 2 cents worth is tainted as I had no use for the army but todays army may in fact offer you more training and more fields than the green machine will.Good luck in whatever you choose.

My husband has been a Marine for 22 yrs. He says it's the best thing he ever did.

I've noticed there are 2 types of Marines (in my opinion). Those who are in for 4 years because they thought it sounded like a good idea and then later realized they couldn't cut it, so they did their 4 years and got out.

Then there are the guys who are in for 20. They realize this is a good career move, and they stay in there. Most the Marines I know are either short timers or lifers. Very few in between. I've even known 2 guys who got out, tried to live as a civilian, then got back into the Marines after a year or so.

Join the Marines and get the Devil Dog out of you. When you're tired of that, ETS form the Marines and enlist in the Army with a couple of stripes on your sleeve and a ton of experience!

Honestly , I say do what you feel in your heart. There are strenghts and weakness of both branches of service. The Marine Corps will definitely bring you fame if the whole pride thing makes you happy then go for it.

On the flip size of it, I know a few Marine Veterans and NONE of them are happy with the lack of benefits that they get.Especially the educational ones. You may want to consider that , with that being said , I would suggest getting a more technical MOS in the Corps so when(if you decided to or get hurt) you will have marketable skills in the cilivian world.

Needless to say , the United States Army has the best benifits of all the branches because it is the largest. We have the highest MGIB and generally speaking,we deal with abit more technial equipment than the Marines (because we have more funding) and more schools are readily available(which looks good on a resume).

The Army has a different approach to training as well. The Marines are said to have the hardest basic training. It is 13 weeks plus four weeks of Infantry then they go to their MOS.

The Army on the other hand has 9 weeks of basic training then you go directly to your MOS.The difference is that the Army uses more of a "speicalized training" approach ( due to the fact that we have some many different types of units, light infantry , mech infantry , armor , cavlry , air assualt , airborne , mountain divison etc) . If we traing everyone in "light infantry" tatics and they got stationed in a "mechanized infantry" unit , then all of that extra training would be big waste of time.It sould be like training a Soldier Air Assualt Tatics , then stationing him to an Airborne unit. So instead we learn a general training in BCT then then more specialized tatics at our units.

I can tell you that from personal experience , that they United States Army worked very well for me! I wanted HOOAH HOOAH combat as well as technial training and I got them both as a US Army Signal Soldier. I was injuried in the line of duty and was Honorably discharged (on medical terms). When I got out I was hired immediately in the RF Communications field because of what I learned in the Army and was promoted to supervisor in 6 months because of the hard work ethics that I learned in the Army. So I can say that (outside of my serice connected injuries) the US Army worked out well for me.

Do your research(know EXACLTY what MOS that you are choose DO NOT LET THEM CHOOSE ONE FOR YOU!!) , see what works for you and consider your future(both in and out the military)!

Apply for a service based on the job you want, not the other way around.

What do you want to be to start off with, infantry? Armor? Artillery? There are differences between the Army and Marine equivalents, particularly when it comes to training, mobility and equipment.
