I'm 17 and recently realized that I'm going no where. However, I also realized that I have the most amazing ability to listen to people whine about nothing. I realize that Psychology is a lot more than that, however, I do believe that it's a good start. What do you think?

Also, I do realize that I used realize and however way too much in that paragraph. blargh

yea psychology is always something good to go into and an interesting subject. If you can listen to people whine all day and give good advice that people will use, then it sounds good. Take a few psychology coarses at school and see how you do and if its even interesting.

A career in psychology could be very rewarding. Being a good listener is a key quality of any psychologist, but you'd also have to be able to analyze situations and offer good advice. Consider how long you're willing to be in school - it's difficult to get a job with a bachelor's (4-year) degree in psychology. To be a psychologist, in most cases, you must go on to graduate school and earn your PhD before getting a job (which could easily take another four years, if not more). I suggest you take this personality test and then look at the various careers it suggests. I took this recently and it was so amazingly accurate, almost funny at times because it described me so well.

Here you can determine your four-letter personality type by answering four questions:

OR, here is a longer version of the same test (with many more questions that may be a bit easier to answer). The results are more detailed too.

Then, here you can read all about your four-letter personality type, and get career suggestions and more:

Deciding on a career can be a very frustrating, yet very rewarding and exciting process! Best wishes :)

I changed my college major like 3 times until I decided what I wanted to do.

You know what I do to see if my suggestions or comments are legible. I answer on Yahoo Answers alot. If people like my advice & give me the best vote I know I have something going for me.

I have an interest in helping people in my community.

I think you would benefit from taking an interest inventory from your guidance counselor and possibly interviewing a clinical psychologist. You need to look at things like salary, job growth and outlook, academic and licensing requirements, continuing education requirements.....a lot to consider, but most college students change their major 3 times anyway...so don't sweat it.
