I was shopping today and picked a hat off of a shelf. I then noticed it had a hole in it. I looked around and finally saw a salesperson (the store was practically empty).
I went up to her (she was straightening up some other hats) and said, "Excuse me m'am, this hat has a hole in it. Can I give it to you or should I take it to the cashier?"
The woman grabbed the hat out of my hand and stuck it back on the shelf and walked away.
In case something like this happens again, how should I handle it?
Unfortunately, I didn't notice her nametag and she completely disappeared into the backroom so I just explained my situation and what she looked like at the checkout in hopes someone could do something...

---Is there something I can say to the salesperson?
Ah, I suppose I could have yelled after her to ask what her name was...I was so in shock, though.

Regardless of the person having authority, it is the job of a salesperson to HELP customers and this woman didn't even speak to me. If she needed me to take the item to customer service, she could have at least told me.

Well as most everyone has mentioned you could have complained to the management! However, I feel you should let it ride this time...we all have our off days, maybe that was her problem. If you frequent this particular store, make it a point to talk to this salesperson alone and warn her that next time you will take the matter to the management!!!

You could say something to the sales person, but I'd bet it would only raise your blood pressure. If the sales person did this with the hat, she wouldn't give a flying flip what came out of your mouth.
Your best course of action, in my opinion, is to ask for the Manager and let the manager know about the hole in the hat and the sales person's disinterest. If the manager does the same...then go home and write a letter (something few people do anymore) to the owner (or chain). Let them know what kind of attitude and stock is being displayed in their store.

You are quite within your rights to report her to the management.Shop assistants like this women, should not be working in a store for this very reason. You the customer are there to be served and should not be treated as an interruption. She also failes to realise that if it were not for customers then she would be out of a job.l would either email the store manager or personnely go back to the shop and ask for the person in charge and ask that they follow this up.How rude can some people be.
NO do not let it ride.We pay their wages!!!!!!!

The sales person could have been nicer about things, but in some stores, the person may not have the authority to remove such items. Next time, if this should happen, take the item to customer service.

Sometimes you may have to look over things, maybe she was having a bad day, and did not mean anything towards you. But if you shop there a lot, and she is there a lot of times when you shop there, and she is rude every time you go there, well maybe you need to speak to her manager about her rudeness...

Find the service desk and ask to speak to the manager, in most stores they know you is assinged do which area and they will handle it. They do not want to lose your business because you feel you were treated badly.

If something like that happens again, I would ask to speak to the manager or if the manager is giving you problem, ask to speak to his/her manager or get the number of that manager. That's ridiculous -- seems to me more and more salespeople are obnoxious. If they're not knocking you over to buy something, they're trying to give you shoddy products.
