How can you tell the difference between what you want and what God wants? What I mean by that is how can you tell you should go for something because this is where God wants you to go not just some personal want you have. Does this makes any sense?

God wants what ever you want that doesn't harm you or anyone else.

God fearing individuals should have that question. First, we are not perfect and just cannot be. How many times have I prayed and prayed for me to do God's will and in the end, it is as if the devil was controlling me. When reading the Bible, how many times does it tell about God allowing bad things to happen, things that the person had no control of? The book of Job is the greatest book that demonstrates this. All we can do is pray earnestly. If we walk in faith, even though what we do may seem wrong to us, how are we supposed to know if it was a part of God's plans? Go to our Lord in counsel and talk everything out. That is my greatest answer. Have us pray for you if you need answers and put yourself on as many prayer lists as you can. God be with you.

What god wants will be in agreement with the word. God, his spirit ( the Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost. many passages refering to leadings from Gods spirit, or Holy Spirit. Spirit or ghost depends on the translation.) will lead, or urge you down a certain path. Some people describe it as a little voice, or self concience. You need to stay in communion with God, or you may not be able to discern his voice. Some times people will pray for guidance, but feel like they aren't receiving any. There may be an issue God is trying to deal with you on, but you aren't listning, so he hasn't answered you on the other. At times God will tell you, or give you all the right signs, but we think " that can't be right", or " thats crazy", "that doesn't make any sense", or "thats to hard". He will NOT have you do something you are not ready for. It doesn't say he won't try you, or uncomfortably stretch you.

The good followers of a religion should do what is wanted by God as stated in the holy book.By doing like this you will always be comply to the God's wants.
If you want something that is against with God's want so you will get sins. For example God instructed you to love and give help to the poor, but although you are rich you do not want to help them. The attitude like this is an evidence that you are tempted by satans so you select the wrong way.
God wanted you to work hard but you are lazy so you live by the support of other. It means your attitude is not in line with God's want etc etc.

trust that God will lead you in the right direction. if you want nothing more than what He wants for you, all is well and all is well and all manner of things will be well. you just have to have faith that if you're trying with all your heart to surrender every part of yourself, even your will, to God, then He will make things happen. He'll open all the right doors and close all the wrong ones. He'll put people in your path to point you in the right direction. the more you devote yourself to prayer, the more you will see the Holy Spirit working in you. so keep praying.

if it's any consolation, i know exactly how you're feeling. i'm currently discerning whether God is calling me to be a nun, so what I've just written feels like advice as much to myself as to you.

Human being are created with reasoning power that gives us ability to choose between good and evil between God will and our own way.
It is better to yield to the will of God even Jesus Christ at a point pray that he the cup of the cross pass over him that is the human side of him bit the will of God is the cross that is why he pray thy will be done.
My dear please pray for Grace to do his will. There is a way that seems right but the end thereof is the way of destruction

Yeah it makes sense. Just pray. If you have a good relationship with God, he'll lead you where you need to be. Even if it gets worse before it gets better, in the end you'll be in the right place.

Wow, that's a really great question. I think each situation is specific and must be dealt with individually. You may find it helpful to have someone you trust and respect look at the situation objectively and give you some helpful advise. The best of luck!

What you want is something forced, by you. When God wants you to have something it comes to you naturally without effort.

If you have doubts or go against your gut feelings, heed this as a sign it's something you want. If it feels right and it comes to you easily - then God is bringing into your life for you.

Ask the Lord to help you to be truly honest with yourself. By this I mean check your motives for why you want something because many times our motives are wrong; meaning we want things for the wrong reason. Trust Him that He knows what is best for us more than we do. When He knows that we trust Him and are willing to obey Him He will guide us into His perfect will.

An omniscient god gives you no choice.
A god dosent compel you. A socially constructed thing cannot control you outside peoples expectations for it to control you.
Life gives you a choice. Live.
