Hedonism and narcissism is the worship of self. Devil worship is worshiping an evil supreme being.

I am not a Satanist, but I have spoken to a few of them. As I understand it (Satanists, please correct me if I'm wrong here), they believe that the Christian version of God is what is actually evil, not Satan...they believe it's the other way around. It's actually a very peaceful religion (well...depending on who you're talking to, I'm sure) wherein they worship themselves as a part of Diety. That last part doesn't sound quite right to me...I hope I'm not misrepresenting here. I do know that the "sacrifice" they speak of is actually similar to what others call "hunting"...except Satanists view it more like a Native American hunt. They use every part of whatever animal they hunt. Do some research. Talk to a Satanist or two. They're really not that scary, unless they set out to be.

I have not been a Satanist for very long but i have done a lot of research and it's not evil and true Satanism is not self centered. I was raised in a christian home and i found everything about it nothing but contradictory to itself. The Satanism i learned about and the Satanism i have found are completely different. The only people i know that have read and believe the Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey are hypocritical and ignorant and really are self centered but i do not believe in it myself and consider it to be a joke since he just made up most of the stuff in it himself. He was just mad at the hypocritical behavior he saw in some christians he observed. But moving on i have found nothing but happiness in Satanism and have realised christianity for what it is. SLAVERY. christians are taught only to fear their god and if they do not then there will be severe consequences. i could keep going on and on about christianity and Satanism but i do not have the time and i would not know how to put it all into the words i want to say but if you have any doubts about it please visit the this website and you will not have any regrets. Remember Satan does not push himself on anyone and will welcome anybody who comes to Him willingly. thank you for your time. joyofsatan.com

The kids are probably going through a phase, like Goths. Chances are they don't know a thing about satanism, it just sounds shocking and reactionary to their parents.
There are different groups of Satanists. One group is actually atheistic in practice and is a strange concoction of pop culture (the top guy named his kid Xerxes, lol). Here's a link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satanism
Check out the Leveyan Satanist link.
Some Satanists (though none that I know of) actually believe in the biblical Yahweh and so forth. No atheist falls into this category, and a small small number in the first group mentioned.
Hope this helps!

Satanism is not a "Christian invention." Satanism predates Christianity and all other religions. Satanism is not about spooks, goblins, vampires, Halloween monsters or other related entities. Satanism is not about "evil." Satanism is not a "reaction to Christianity." Satanists do not believe in Jehovah/Jewsus We are law abiding. We DO NOT advocate or participate in any blood or living sacrifice. We have found Satanism is the original religion of humanity. We have done our research. Satanism is based upon the ancient religions that predated Judaism and Christianity from hundreds to thousands of years. The Original Gods [Demons] were unjustly labeled as monsters and branded as "evil" to keep humanity from spiritual knowledge. Because of this, the human race has drastically degenerated both spiritually and intellectually. Satanism is not about death. True Satanism is about elevating and empowering humanity, which was our True Creator (Satan's) intention. We know Satan/Lucifer as a real being. We know Satan to be the True Father and Creator God of humanity.

I have actually heard of more than one kind of Satanism. The most prevalent form is the kind that comes from "The Satanic Bible" by Anton LaVey. This is a "religion of the Self" that you mention above. My understanding is they do not believe in a literal evil God, but use the idea of Satan in a symbolic way. When I was in High School, the students who toyed with Satanism were of this type.
The other kind of Satanism I've heard about has been called "Theistic Satanism," or "Spiritual Satanism." These people apparently do believe literally in a being which has been called Satan and Lucifer, as well as other names, but they do not believe he is evil. They do believe has been misunderstood and maligned, primarily by Christians.

The term is used both ways. In the Bible, the sin that satan committed was to try to exalt himself above God. So some who want to worship "self" use the term "satanism" to mean self-worship or self-exaltation. The "Satanic Bible" is a book which promotes this form of satanism.
Others use the term to refer to the worship of the being "satan" himself. That is where the sacrifices, etc come in.
Some who hold to the "self" form of satanism will practice some of the satan worship rituals, not so much because they believe in the being satan, but because it is a rejection of God and the Christian faith, which of course goes against their "self" beliefs.

Hello,
The one case I can think of that was a real McCoy happened in 17th century France in the reign of Louis XIV:
Others were not so guiltless.
" A peak of sulfur-and-brimstone intensity was reached by the Satanists of 17th century France, who were rooted out by a secret court under Louis XIV. A famous case of that day involved a series of demonic rituals commissioned by a mistress of Louis who felt that she was falling out of favor. To regain the monarch's love, she had a corrupt priest say sacrilegious Masses *over her nude body in a subterranean Paris chamber, sacrificing a live child at the height of each Mass. "
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

satanists say all sorts of things to try to make themselves look good, but the truth of the matter is: they worship SATAN.
There are plenty of other ways to be evil aside from eating babies or killing animals, and some are much larger in scale than you can possibly comprehend.
As for a bunch of middle school kids saying they worship satan? yeah, they'll grow out of that phase.

Self-professed Satanists are usually somewhat disturbed adolescents practicing what is actually an inverted form of Christianity. They're renegade Christians trying to get a rise ot of people or get revenge on Christianity for being such a stupid drag. Mature and sensible people do not need Satanism.
Since Satan doesn't exist, it's worship of an imaginary supernatural being. Just like Christianity.

The former. Satanism is the worship of oneself as they would god (because god can be anything they please it to be). The satanist bible I believe doesn't even refer to Satan as something to be worshipped.
Also I find it confusing for people to actually worship Satan... Is that they believe that Satan is actually good or is that they like being tortured....
