I am going to the Verizon Center from Lynchburg, VA. Is it cheaper/more convient to park at a station and ride the metro in, or should I drive in and pay $20 at the Verizon Center? Pros/Cons? Thanks for your help!

Take US 29 to I-66 and exit at Nutley St. Follow signs for the Vienna Metro Station. You will need a Smartcard which costs $10 and gives you $5 balance which will allow you to leave the lot. If the concert is on the weekend, parking is free. Take the Orange Line inbound to Gallery Place - I believe the Verizon Center is above the station.

{EDIT} Lynchburg to DC is a straight shot north on US 29 and coming up US 460 to I-95 to Franconia-Springfield would add another hour to the commute.

Everyone has suggested that you take the Metro. The metro is wonderful and cheap and efficient. However, no one who answered caught the second clue in your question: That you are going to the Verizon Center.

It's not the location, it's the time! First, get an idea of when the game or concert ends. Next, look up the time of the last train leaving the metro station serving the Verizon Center. Make plans to be there at least 20 minutes early.

I suggest that you drive into DC and pay for the parking. That way, you will not have to leave your event early. (You are probably looking at more drive time to and from DC than the amount of time that you will actually be staying there.) I've missed the last metro before, and it's a pain getting a taxi after hours on weekdays. (Of course, this was back before cell phones were affordable.)

The Verizon Center's parking deck should stay open for the entire event. Be careful if you try to park in a separate parking deck. They may close early and you won't be able to get your car out until the next morning. (This is worse than missing the last metro! And yes, I have had this happen to me.)

Good luck! Hope that you have fun at the Verizon Center.

Monuments and memorials, diverse neighbourhoods, true local flavour this is what Washington, DC is; a place unlike some other; just like this site hotelbye . Washington it's your property away from home with free museums and America's front yard. Washington is acknowledged all over the world as a mark of the United States. Here, the spot you cannot miss could be the Capitol. Capitol is the seat of the House of Representatives and the Senate. The huge dome, based on the dome of St. Peter's in Rome, stands out most importantly other Washington buildings. Like Washington itself, the creating has grown over time considering that the key part was developed between 1793 and 1812. The last addition, in 1958-62, increased the main façade where presidents take the oath. On the other part, a marble terrace presents beautiful opinions on the mall and the city. The inside is resplendent with frescoes, reliefs, and paintings, particularly the rotunda beneath the good cast-iron dome with a threshold painting by Constantino Brumidi and large paintings of displays from American history on the walls.

Definitely would recommend parking at the Franconia-Springfield metro station - you can map it on Google Maps (6880 Frontier Drive, Springfield, VA 22150)

From the south, you just take I-95 north and get off at Exit 169B (the last exit before the beltway), and it's basically right off the interstate. There is a 5,000-space parking garage, and the cost is $3.75 for the whole day (free on weekends).

From the Franconia-Springfield station, you'd just take the Blue Line two stops to King Street, then switch to the Yellow Line (on the same track), and that will take you directly to the Gallery Place-Chinatown-Verizon Center stop.

Definitely park at a Metro station and ride the rest of the way in. If you go to Franconia Springfield (Blue) or Vienna (Orange), the closest you can get is Metro Center, which is about four blocks from Verizon Center (exit the station at 11th Street and walk east on G Street). If you can park at Huntington (Yellow Line), it will take you to Gallery Place/Chinatown, which is directly below Verizon Center.

The fares: From Vienna to Metro Center, it will be $2.35 during nonrush and $3.55 during rush hours (5-9:30am and 3-7pm weekdays) From Franconia Springfield to Metro Center, it's $2.35 during nonrush and $3.60 during rush. From Huntington to Gallery Place, it's $1.85 during nonrush and $2.60 during rush. Depending on how many people are in the car, it's probably cheaper to use Metro, and you will save yourself endless aggravation driving the DC city streets and finding parking.

To park at a Metro station is at most $4. Many of the stations have parking. I would suggest driving to the Metro.

I've done both fairly easily but still prefer to take the metro if possible. Driving in is probably going to be the fastest way unless there's a protest going on. Metro is less of a hassle and you don't have to worry about trying to navigate DC.
