The 40GB PS3 doesn't have the digital camera flash card slots, it has 2 USB ports, and it isn't compatible with PS2 games, but it can play PS1 games.

The 80GB PS3 has the digital camera flash card slots, it can play both PS1 and PS2 games, and it has 4 USB ports. That is the only difference. They both have WiFi, Bluetooth, Bluray, a Web browser, and the same technology.

40GB is missing PS1 + PS2 playback, only has 2 USB ports and not 4, no memory card reader and smaller hard drive.
