I don't like potato skins in general but I will eat them if they are in the mashed potatoes because they do have a lot of nutrition in them. I wouldn't do bacon bits in them unless you are sure there are no vegetarians. We have a hard enough time trying to figure out what to eat at other people's houses. LOL
EDIT: ok, go for the bacon bits but make sure they aren't made from real bacon. Seems everyone likes bacon. LOL

This depends on the potatoes. If they're new potatoes, or the skin isn't too thick then I mash them with the skin on. If they're older or of the baking potato variety, then the skins come off.
I will also add such things as roasted garlic, toasted onion, basil, rosemary etc depending on what they're being served with.
Bacon bits I normally leave out.

Put the mashed potatoes on top of the meatloaf(when it's 10 min. from done) with a bit of butter and sprinkle paprika on them. Place the pan back in the oven until the potatoes brown a little. Slice your meatloaf as you normally would.

People think I'm weird because I leave the skins on. I think people are weird to take the skins off. I'd say no on the bacon bits.

Personally, I have to be in the mood, but I think I'll go with adding a few skins in tomorrow.
In fact, I'm trying something new this year.
I'm adding horseradish to the potatoes. I had this in a restaurant recently and it was FANTASTIC!!!
