I say about 6-8 thousand years. That's pretty close to your guess!

We believe the earth is young because we believe in a literal Genesis.

Genesis 1:1
"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (period)
God can only create "whole" things not destroyed.

(it does not say when the beginning was)
A Space in the bible occurs between Gen 1:1 and 1:2
(this space represents the rebellion of Satan and 1/3rd of the angels in this time period)

Geneis 1:2
"And the earth was without form, and void;...."
Translated:
And the earth BECAME WASTE.
"WAS" = BECAME, CAME TO PASS
without form = "waste" = Hebrew word tohu va bohu
The others are correct, the earth is billions? of years old.
God created it perfect.
Satan rebelled with angels.
God re-created it again with a turn on the axis which changed the weather
See more in II Peter 3
3:5 - "For this they willingly are ignorant of,
that by the word of God (bible) the heavens were of old (billiions of years), and the earth standing out of the water and in the water
(scientific fact):
Whereby the world that then was (Gen 1:1), being overflowed with water, perished:
But the heavens and the earth which are now
(earth re-creation Gen.1:3 - forward), by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgement (after Christ returns, earth renewal again)........."

Also, Gen. 1:3 - on, God re-created the earth
II Peter 3:8
"....one day is with the Lord as a thousand years , and a thousand years as one day."

Hence, 6 days of creation = 6000 years.
Male and females together created on 6th day.
Gen 1:27
7th day God rested = 1000 more
8th day God created Adam and Eve
Gen 2:7 Adam formed
Gen2:22 Eve created
Adam and Eve created separately and 2000 years later than the rest of mankind.

So, Cain had plenty of humans to chose from to become his wives when God commanded him to be gone after he killed Avel. see Gen 2:14

LOL look how many different answers, I copied 'em:

4 - 5 billion years

over 6 billion years

more like 20 thousand

millions and millions of years

hundreds of millions of years

Ain't that a hoot? I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh, but everyone has to admit, that's funny!

The 4.5 billion is the one quoted by Wikipedia and I have to agree that's probably right. And yes, I'm a Christian.

I'm also one of those who believe that creation and evolution work together .... that Adam and Eve were put into the garden when earth was young, and lived there all that time while the world evolved around them. It explains why God put a wall around the garden and it is backed up by the fact that until Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, they would not die. Otherwise, why did God say "surely you will die?" ... obviously He didn't mean right away, because they didn't die right then.

No date for the creation is given in scripture. While some have calculated a 6000 to 10,000 year date for the creation, it uses the genealogies of the Bible to arrive at those dates. If you read the entire Bible, you will find that almost every genealogy in the Bible skips generations, only focusing on those people and names that are important to the story being told. This makes the genealogies a less then reliable source for trying to date creation.

There is also a possibility that there is a "gap" between Genesis chapter 1 verses 1 and 2. That the world was created, existed for a period, was made uninhabitable by the fall of satan, and then "recreated" in the six days of "creation". This would allow for a much older age (including the billions of year that science today believes in) and the existence of animals (such as dinosaurs and human-like "cavemen") prior to the creation of Adam and Eve.

So from the Bible, it is difficult to place a specific date on the creation of the earth. The Bible was never intended to be a science manual or a historical text book. It was intended to reveal the nature of God and how man relates to him. When it mentions science or history, the references are correct. But to use it as a source for trying to "prove" science was never God's intent.

Ok, look at the earth and the estimated age of the earth according to the aging methods God created within His creation. God did not put things here to make the earth look older than it looks. He did not place fossils here to fool us. God created all things, therefore He created all things well. If God put one thing in His creation that was false or gave a false reading according to His creation, then the God who cannot lie is a false God, and there is NO God if the creation contains lies.

Therefore, I would estimate the earth is several billion years old or possibly even a trillion. We have no idea when the heavens and the earth were created, because remember in Genesis 1: the heavens and earth were here and God was walking on the face of the waters before he began His creation on Day one.

We also know He tells us a day is as a thousand years to Him and a thousand years as a day, so we cannot bind God to time.

I realize a lot of Christians think God is a liar in His creation, but I believe God completely.

I'd say 6 to 10 thousand years so it's about the same.

Since it was created by God. The counting years during the ancient centuries is not the same counting as of today or more earlier days.
Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

I am not sure but it's not as long as the evolutionists say. the reason why they say it's billions and billions of years old is because that is how long it would take if their theory is correct. evolution is a religion that replaces God with man. if we just evolved then there was no creator and if there was no creator then we are not responsible to anyone.

I go with about 6,000 years. I believe that Creation was a literal 7-day event and that Creation is also a prophecy for the length of the Plan of Salvation. So, keeping this in mind:

2Peter 3:8 "But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."

Thus, we can see that sin will do its work in the earth for six thousand years:

Ex. 20:8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
Ex. 20:9 "Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work:
Ex. 20:10 "But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work..."

So, then, even the earth will keep a Sabbath unto the Lord:

Lev. 25:2 "Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD."

The total is seven thousand years. That final thousand years the Righteous will spend in Heaven with Jesus while the earth rests from the work of sin.
