To have sin consiousness is to be unrenewed. Paul wrote this as an answer to being acceptable to God.
"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service."
That you 'may prove' is the focus here.
"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what [is] that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
It is about maturity. there is much in Scripture that can only be received after leaving the elimentry lesson (that most seem to argue over).
Hbr 6:1 "Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death,[fn1] and of faith in God,"
We are commanded to be mature.
Mat 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."
That word perfect means to be mature in our english language.
1Cr 2:6 "We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing."
To Study the Scriptures allows the Spirit to bring to remberance those things you learned as you read. Read it aloud. Faith comes by hearing....
Eph 4:13 "until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. "

Our minds as they are now, without Gods Word and instruction in our hearts and minds....makes our minds empty, umprofitable. BUT, if we read Gods Word, study it, think about it, meditate on it, and try to understand what it was, that Jesus was trying to teach His disciples and friends, our minds, will become RENEWED!! Energised, transformed, changed, little by little, and slowly but surely, we will become a little more like jesus every day, so as the things we once USE to do and enjoy, will seem like a waste of time and energy, and we will want to be up and doing good things in Jesus service, helping other s to come to an understanding of the Kingdom to come, and we will slowly start to do things and look at life in a whole new wonderful way......and you'll find, if someone hurts you, you won't want to hurt them back, but will take it to the Lord in prayer, asking for His guidance in the matter and trusting Him to have the answers for your life! so, you'll become transformed, renewed, day by day, hour by hour, so as you will KNOW what Gods will is for your life, and you will want to do it, not because of what you hope to get out of it, but because of your love, so deep for the Lord, that you want to be a person filled with Light and love, because THAT is how Jesus is, and His Father in heaven, God....and because, it is a priviledge and Joy to serve and honour God, in this way!!!

I have always been taught that renewing your mind means having a good attitude and being disciplined in the way you think, not letting your thoughts get away with you and not dwelling on things that aren't good for you. I am a regular person, however, not a theologian.

To be tranformed by the renewing of your mind is to shed and put away the thoughts of evil and wordly things and concentrate on God and his words, receiving the instructions by the Holy Spirit and accepting your gift of Salvation.

Simply put, Garbage in, Garbage out.
Fill your mind with the garbage of the world and this is what will consume your thoughts and lead to your actions.
Fill your mind with the things of God and you will renew your mind!
Think about what you read, watch, and listen to every day.

when we accept christ our mindset should change. we should start to look at things like he would want us to and change our perspectives on things. this should result in a behavioral change and eliminating sin in our lives.
