You will be able to compare many different versions of the bible and find the one you feel most comfortable with. Then think about how you want to use it. I have a bible with very wide margins on each side which allows me to make notes next to texts. There are also bibles with commentary included which can help with difficult to understand texts. If you decide to get one with a commentary, I would caution you to remember that while the bible is inspired by God, the commentary is not.

Buy a New International Version or Revised Standard Version. Get a straight bible, no notes or concordances or anything. If the Bible is truly divine, it will explain itself to you.
Edit: Oh yeah, if you can't speak Early Modern English fluently (most people can't, it's nothing to be ashamed of), DO NOT get a King James Version for theological or doctrinal study. Many words have completely different meanings, and it just takes too much work to translate be worth using. That's not to say you can't use it for literary value, but unless you're a Shakespearean scholar you will never be able to understand it well enough to get good theology out of it.

What religion are you? That does make a difference. If you happen to be Roman Catholic, then the New American Bible will work for you. If you are not, then the King James Version will work. I wouldn't go too big. Something easy to store and maybe in paperback

If you don't have a religion and just want a bible to study then get a contempory bible or "THE GOOD NEWS" bible, they are easy to read and understand. God Bless you on your reading and pray that God gives you the light to understand His scriptures.
