17 with your parents permission. I had to get my mommy's signature. The only bootcamp in CA is MCRD San Diego.

When I went through boot camp, it was sir or ma'am. Learn your general orders, you should have already been given a copy. Chain of command, if possible. Remember that boot camp is only 8 weeks and is not how the "real" navy operates. Take care of your gear, it will take care of you. Keep your ears and eyes open, your mouth shut. Don't ever assume anything or move to perform a task without being told. (You do not want to be the one with your uniform stenciled incorrectly.) You're going to be shocked when you see yourself in the mirror after getting your hair buzzed off. Forget about privacy, you're not going to have any. Group showers aren't as bad as they sound. Navy chow taste good when you're hungry.

to join the military you can be 17 but need your parent or guardian to sign off on it, plus you need to pass the background check and have a high school diploma or GED
