Only pray the Lord's prayer, for God already knows what you need. (Matthew 6:7-13)
Pray for whatever you want: "If you ask anything in my name, I will do it." (John 14:14); "If you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name." (John 16:23)
BUT it doesn't matter anyway, because "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:23) and "We know that God does not listen to sinners." (John 9:31)

None of you have provided any bible references to my question and I can only conclude that you are giving me your opinion. Its funny that none commented on the quotes I provided.

Fireball226-Actually I did come up with my own name and it is quite different than yours and since you didn't answer the question as presented I'll take as you agreeing with me. Thanks.

Take a moment to look at James 1:5, (remembering that we are commanded to ask in the name of Jesus Christ) all things that we ask while praying are conditional and we don't always get the answer that we want; but, we do always get an answer. Remember to avoid vain repetitions (Matt 6:7) and to keep a prayer in your heart continuously (Acts 6:4). God does know what we need, but, do we always ask for what we need? or just for what we want? God not only knows what we need, He knows what is best for us.

if you have been saved by God then you're no longer considered a sinner (although you might still sin, Jesus paid the price). God does know what you need already but that doesn't mean that He doesn't want to hear you ask. He won't give you everything that you want. He will give you what you need and if you are humble enough more. God loves you.

The best prayer is an honest and humble prayer. Its like talking to a friend - no protentions - just the real you. Its the kind of prayer that comes from the heart.

The best way to pray to God is honestly and sincerely. There is no secret formula or set of rules for praying. God is interested and concerned about each one of us, and we don't have to pretend to be something we're not when we're around Him. His love is unconditional.

It is a personal matter and you should always speak your heart with God. He knows your heart and reciting a memorized prayer means little to what you truly feel. just be respectful. Don't let anyone tell you different....

there are a lot of scriptures in the bible about praying to our Heavenly Father, some of which you have already mentioned.

for myself, one that has impressed on me deeply was that of James 1:5 which says, "If any f you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

According to St. Matthew, God doesn't tell us what to say when we pray, that should come from your heart and in your own words. What St. Matthew did say was how to pray.

1 "(But) take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them; otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.

2 When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

3 But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,

4 so that your almsgiving may be secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

5 "When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners so that others may see them. Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.

6 But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.

7 In praying, do not babble like the pagans, who think that they will be heard because of their many words.

8 Do not be like them. Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 "This is how you are to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name....
