Just like if you have been molested by a parent. It is difficult to let God come close to your life. You don't trust anyone hardly every and it takes a long time to get healed. But healing does come and the relationship with God can be stronger than ever.

This is not a religion and sprituality question. It is a question about CRIME, in which the criminals called themselves Christians.
I think that being molested by someone with spiritual authority is as bad as being molested by any trusted figure--family member, teacher, or whatever--with the additional aspect of the harm done by a separation from the love of God and the fellowship of other Christians.
In other words, being molested by a priest is worse than being molested by anyone else.
It's not just priests, by the way. Pastors have dirty hands here and there as well. I live in Taiwan, where orphan kids get molested in Buddhist monasteries. This isn't uniquely Catholic stuff, or even Christian stuff for that matter either.

I think that it would have a profound effect on anyone who would be molested by someone they respected and trusted whether it was a priest, other clergy, a school teacher or a family member. It would make someone very reluctant to trust anyone or even respect authority. Thankfully it is less likely that one would be molested by a priest than any other of the other people and professions I mentioned. Much less likely!

I'm someone who has had this happen to me, I don't remember it, but apparently it did occur when I was around 10-11.
I was quite psychic. Able to hear peoples thoughts and speak to them silently, see gosts and other things, move objects with my mind etc.
My folks took me to the parish priest because they thought I was posessed or something. When I shook the preists hand, I flipped out. I really don't remember much, but the visions that ran through my head were simply vile, that much I remember. Apparently around an hour later, my folks walked in on him touching me inappropriately. After that we formally renounced christianity and my parents helped me to find some university professors who helped me gain controll over my power.
I really hasn't effect me, that I know of, though that is possibly because I have no concious memory of what occured. Also, I am sure that people have endured much, much worse at the hands of priests.

There are articles about these victims actually- it's really messed with a lot of their lives, some in very tragic ways.
