used in an episode...and not bleeped so I assumed they were not that bad (I"m not sure if I got the spelling right).

But what do they mean?

When they used the word "coons", they showed one of the jurors being upset and he was a black man.

The use of those words was to prove a point in court...that words can hurt people and make them do irrational decisions...

They are derogatory terms for certain minorities. I do not know their origins.

Kikes ----> Jews
Spics ----> Hispanics
Coons ----> Blacks

All of those are racial slurs..."spics" pertains to Hispanics, and "coons" refer to blacks...I'm not sure about "kikes." If you used them on the street you might not get away with it, but shows like Law and Order attempt to depict the reality on the streets of big cities where there is a lot of discrimination that causes tension and violence.
