Do remember that while there are an awful lot of Christians in the West, its not the same everywhere. There are still twice as many non-Christians in the world as Christians, so it clearly hasn't been a clear sweep.
Some of the reasons for the spread of Christianity:
Intense missionary work. Besides the various instances of religion being forced on people, there are many, many more instances of missionaries risking their lives to bring the Christian faith to strangers solely through preaching and good works. This has been going on for 2000 years.
Governmental support. From 4th century Rome onward in the West Christianity was the official religion of choice. Even if you had the option of following another religion, there were a lot of perks to being Christian.
Right place at the right time. When Rome was prospering, Christianity wasn't hugely popular. It started to really spread during Rome's decline into the Dark Ages. Christianity promised a better life after this one and give meaning to what was often a very dangerous, violent and fearful time.
Evangelizing as central to the faith. Most religions don't evangelize. The Greeks didn't care if their neighbors were worshipping non-Greek gods, for example. Hence, those religions didn't spread, because it was illogical to work toward their spread.

Christianity might well have died out, but for a few lucky coincidences. One of the most important was that Constantine won an important battle in 312 CE, (and as a result converted to Christianity, although he wasn't really very Christ-like). Because of that, and other "accidents of history" plus some very real and effective persecution, Christianity has persevered in the West.
But in the long run, even this aberration will fail.

Because Christianity wasn't around until the Book of Acts. The Gospels and the entire Old Testament do not even contain the word 'christian'. However. God is mentioned hundreds of times in both the Old and New testaments. And false gods are as old as the first book of the Bible, Genesis. (Off subject here, but don't you think they should stop calling it the 'New' Testament? It is thousands of years old. They should start calling it the 'less old' Testament.

It was the next logical progression. People had to remember and apease all of the bloody gods before they did anything. So eventually, one priest or another made a 'king of the gods' which basically pushed the other gods down to 'demi-god' status.
This then became the fundamentals for the monotheistic god and angels.
FYI. the christian god was coppied from the jewish god when christianity decided to branch off. Remember that Yeshua ben Yoseph (Popularised a Jesus) was a devout and fundamentalist Jew.

Because God tells certain people through His Spirit. Jesus said that His Spirit would be here, and even called Him 'Counselor'. As in someone who counsels others.
It's not my fault that people don't believe it, or don't pay attention to it. If you ask me, most unbelievers aren't really interested in this stuff. They just ask to see if they can bring Christianity down, or at least someone who is Christian.
What a waste of time.

Christianity became the religion of Rome and spread its way through Europe due to this political alliance. Since Europe was the first nation to colonize other parts of the world in a fairly aggressive way, it would make sense that Christianity would follow in it's footsteps.

The Christian religion caught on so well because it favored many people - the poor and the rich, the black and the white, and it welcomed people who wanted to convert. It was a very inviting, non-violent religion (for the most part), and that's why it attracted so many people in the Middle Ages in Europe.

the truth is it really started spreading in the roman empire(which really spread it thru the world) because it appealed to the lower classes. jesus said that anyone can go to heaven, and they appreciated feeling important in god's eyes. they also felt that there was more to their life, so they all took it up. they all wanted the hope of having someone that cared.
i hope that was not preaching. sorry if it was.

Jehovah God is the only one who has both given may prophecies, AND every one of them has come true, to the last detail. In fact, the only ones that haven't, are set for the future. Not one that was set to happen, has gone unfulfilled.
