My dogs are on AvoDerm and they are doing great on it. Their coats are shiny and their poop is solid. However, several people on this site have said bad things about this dogs food. What is the truth? Are avocados really toxic to dogs? My dogs love it, and this food was recommended, but no one on this site seems to like it at all!

I believe a whole, raw avocado can produce toxic reactions in dogs, but in Avoderm the avocados have been separated and processed in such a way that the toxic portions are not used. It is perfectly safe, and I've heard great things about the coat quality you can get using it. If it's working for your dogs, just stick with it. Everybody has something bad to say about every dog food on the market, that's just the way it is.

I've used avoderm with no problems. I don't anymore because i opt for the grain free rout. Avocados are fine for dogs, except in large amounts. You would have to feed your dog about 7 cups a day for 15 years to see damage from the amount of avocado in avoderm.

I don't know about the dog food cause i never used it before, but i did hear about it and to be honest i never heard anything bad about it other then you saying that people on here don't like it. Everybody has their own opinion. If you like what it does for your dog then i would keep using it unless you here something bad about it threw a vet, the news ect... You can also ask your vet and see what he thinks. As for Avocados. The fruit, pit and plant are all toxic. They can cause difficulty breathing and fluid accumulation in the chest, abdomen and heart.

I don't think it's a *bad* food, but I'd like to see more meat ingredients at the top of the list (I assume that you're talking about AvoDerm Natural).

Avocado pits are bad, the avocado is good for the dog. A good source of Vitamin A and potassium.

The only reason people don't like it, at least from what I see, is the lack of meat in it. Dogs are carnivores and SHOULD be eating meat.
On the other hand, if it is working for you, who am I to say anything, I guess?

It would probably get a much better review if it had more meat in it.
