These were old old teaching from the scam artists in the past. Unfortunately, it evolved into such a huge social infrastructure that controls people through fear, greed, and stupidities.
People who are religious through family pass down should rethink their "faith". Blindly believing some thing is baseless, foolish as any other blindly faith.
yet, this is surely will get into the deaf ears of millions of the devotees. This is such an imperfect world.
On the other hand, it is essential for the world to be imperfect, that way, we have something to work on.

Why when I may wash my own hands? Or I may keep my heart pure and stay strong and morale? Why do I need God when I donate to an orphanage or comfort another after a long day? Is that what God is to you? Someone you call on hand and foot. God is tired of your wanting.

Prayer is not about asking God for things. God is not a vending machine.
True prayer is one percent talking and 99 percent listening, so get your talking over with as soon as possible.
You can't hear what God is telling you if you are babbling a bunch of meaningless words.
Love and blessings Don

You need to ask God anything that you know it will turn him on... like this prophet of God did...
Hosea 9:14-16 (NIV) (the prophet is improvising a prayer to the LORD!!!...) Give them, O LORD— what will you give them? Give them wombs that miscarry and breasts that are dry. (And God rushes to answer him on the spot!!!) "Because of all their wickedness in Gilgal, I hated them there. Because of their sinful deeds, I will drive them out of my house. I will no longer love them; all their leaders are rebellious. Ephraim is blighted, their root is withered, they yield no fruit. Even if they bear children, I will slay their cherished offspring."
God always answers our prayer if we ask him “according to his will”… even before we open our eyes!

("Allah" means "The God" in arabic)
Quran - Sura 31 Luqman
26
To Allah belong all that is in the heavens and earth; surely Allah is the One Who is free of all wants, worthy of all praise.
27
If all the trees on earth were pens, and the ocean were ink, replenished by seven more oceans, the writing of Allah's Words (His wonderful signs and creations) would not be exhausted; surely Allah is Mighty Wise.
God has already given us everything, Even though we have not asked for it.
But look at us we walk his earth, breath his air, use the organs given by him , But still we fail to recognise him as OUR GOD...........We do not care to find his commandments and follow them.
READ THE QURAN ---------- THE LAST REVEALATION OF GOD. and recognise GOD.

Not in those words. I nightly pray that others are protected and healthy, (by name if I know them). I pray for the powerful to use their gifts to help others, also.
Peace.

Every morning I ask God to help me make it a good day for those I touch, for my family and for myself. I work for a doctor and I know I need God to get me thru each and every day; if one person thanks me at the end of the day I know God has blessed me.

If you ask god for something, you might not get it. Will that change your mind about it. He has a very spotty record of granting favors. You might consider not wasting your time.
Its just not there
peace.
