i've had horrible nightmares ever since i was a little girl. i've had nightmares about getting raped and watching people get murdered. most of my nightmares are about a man chasing me and trying to kill me. I HAVE A NIGHTMARE EVERY NIGHT. they are extremely graffic and disgusting. no one else in my family suffers from this. why might i get these nightmares? i can usually remember them. sometimes i have to be woken up because my husband says i'm crying. is this some kind of disorder. schizophrenia runs in my family, but none of the schizo's (my mom has it too) suffer from this either. what do you think it could be? by the way, i had an extremely rough childhood, but i've had this before it got rough if i remember correctly. thanks for all the answers!

To dream that you have been raped, suggests a sadistic expression of sexual desire. You may be expressing an unconscious desire to be violated, conquered, or forced into forbidden territory. It also indicates vengeful feelings toward the opposite sex. Alternatively, it suggests that you are feeling violated in some way. Something or someone is jeopardizing your self-esteem and emotional well-being. Dreams of rape are also common for those who were actually raped in their waking life.

To dream that you witness a murder, indicates deep-seated anger towards somebody. Consider how the victim represents aspects of yourself that you want to destroy or eliminate.

To dream that you are being chased, signifies that you are avoiding a situation that you do not think is conquerable. It is often a metaphor for some form of insecurity. In particular, to dream that you are chased by an animal, represents your own unexpressed and unacknowledged anger which is being projected onto that animal. Alternatively, you may be running away from a primal urge or fear.

To dream that you feel fear, signifies that you achievements will not be as successful as you had anticipated. You are having anxieties in certain circumstances of your life.

nightmares, from my personal knowledge, is an image created after your last thought. It has been years since I've had a nightmare, and thats including the night after I've watched very wrong and disturbing things(Saw IV, Dawn of the Dead any one?)

If you remember your nightmares just before you go to bed, you will have a nightmare. Try meditating before you go to bed. Clear your consciousness of all that icky stuff that troubles you. Just let go. If you have a religion, pray for peace and calming to your god. And don't lose hope if you think of one just before you sleep. This happens to me, too, bu the positive reinforcement helps get rid of it.

Simply put, its a Good/ Evil factor that you have to face to get rid of. No disease or sickness has anything to do with it.

i heard somewhere that you dream about things that you last think about before you go to sleep. maybe you think about these kinds of things before you fall asleep? maybe you should think about happy things. or see a therapist so they could tell you whats wrong.
