I am on a calorie counting diet but I crave sweets like cookies
How can I eat what I want. Why do some people eat whatever
they want and dont gain any pounds. If I have over 2300 calories
a day i seem to gain weight. Today I only had 1600 calories.
Ive lost 20 pounds in two months, but it is a struggle to resist
sweets. I still have about 80 pounds to go to get to my goal of
180 lbs.

let me ask you something. What do you suppose is the ratio of underweight guys with girlfriends to overweight guys with girlfriends. I'm thinking its something like zero to five hundred. You think that underweight guy gives a ratsass about having a donut? Confidence is high that he'd trade all the donuts in all the Winchells in the world for what that fat slob enjoys just for the mere fact of having meat on his bones.

Well it sounds like your doing really well. For every 3500 calories extra that you consume you gain a pound. The reason some people can whatever they want and not gain weight has to do mainly with metabolism, not something that most of us can help. As long as you continue to maintain calories that are appropriate for your height and weight, than you are on the right track. As far as eating sweets, moderation is key. Reward yourself with your favorite treat after you meet a weight goal, but cut the reward in half. Example: instead of eating a whole candy bar, eat half and save the rest for another day.

Some people can eat so much and still be so thin, it's their metabolism. I've read that if you eat little meals through out the day your metabolism rate will increase because your body won't have to try and digest a whole load of food, instead it will just digest a small amount. 6 small meals a day is good.

You can still have sweets but have them once a week to treat yourself for all your hard work. But only have a little bit.

Drink more water and avoid sodas.

also if you try and eat less meat, that will help with losing weight, I tried going vegetarian (didn't work) but i lost a little bit of weight in just 5 days!

Try a daily supplement of Chromium GTF..it is a mineral that helps regulate your blood sugar. You will find that it will definitely help with the cravings. Also, try not to eat to many starchy foods--especially for breakfast. For example if you have toast or a bagel or a muffin for breakfast--you'll be hungry in no time. The simple carbs break down and convert to sugar very quickly--then you crash and need to eat something to recover. You'd feel fuller longer by eating some protein and you'll find that as you start to cut down on starches and sweets, and crave them less---especially with a chromium supplement.

Chromium might also help you shave a few extra pounds as a side bonus. It is available in most pharmacies and health food stores. Speak to your doctor if you're diabetic and taking insulin though just to make sure it's safe for you.

I don't know if this will work for you. But when I need a really healthy, serious diet. I'm a very busy person, constantly on the go. For breakfast, I eat a small bowl of Cascadian Farms- Vanilla Almond Crunch, which keeps my appetite down for a while. During the rest of the day, I eat a variety of canned fruits (peaches, pears, mixed fruit, mandarin oranges) and applesauce. I eat the fruit in place of lunch, dinner, and as snacks. This diet usually shows results within a week or two for me. I hope that it might work for you :)

Goodluck!

There was a study done at a university a couple of decades ago which showed that you could eat anything you wanted and maintain or even lose weight, just as long as you didn't eat anything at all during the last eight hours before you went to sleep at night.

If you eat good food every few hours, to keep your matabalizum going you should lose a lot of weight.
I did this afew years ago. I ate at least 1 apple a day, 8 glasses of water. would freeze bottles of water, had bites of chicken boiled, hard cheese slices, crackers saltines. Don't get hungry then eat. Munch a little bite threw out the day. the water & fruit is the secret. NO JUNK FOOD

drink water! it is so simple, but sooo effective! each time you resist eating a sweet you are not just benefiting yourself for that moment...you are actually retraining your brain to read the signals being sent. you think you want a sweet but really you probably need more water or a good stretch or some exercise! keep making good choices...it is sooo worth it and it does get easier!!! so much of what we do (good and bad) is habitual...develop good habits and you won't have to think about every food choice you make...you will automatically reach for an apple instead of a cookie...best wishes for your continued success! :)

Eat more veggies and proteins, not sweets.
I find that when I want something sweet, I will put honey on a piece of bread and eat that. It is a natural sugar and will process better in your body than donuts.
Other times, when I am craving sweets, it is because my blood sugar is low and I will eat a piece of whole grain bread or whole grain crackers and it will curb that craving.
