obviously it does not apply to them. They are not held to something that did not exist. But they are still saved by their faith in God and in their case probably living by the law since that is what existed at the time.

Those who died before Jesus's birth and before His death are now in heaven. When Jesus died He went to hell/paradise/purgatory and preached to them. After His resurrection, He remained on earth for another 40 days, when he ascended to heaven, those He preached to ascended with Him

1 Peter 3:18For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

20Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

Ephesians 4 : 8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.

9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things

Nothing convoluted about the truth and here it is. Jesus died for all men's sins, which included those who lived before his earthly life. Come to Christ.. Convoluted? Hardly !

1 John 2
12 I write to you, little children,
Because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.
13 I write to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
Because you have overcome the wicked one.
I write to you, little children,
Because you have known the Father.
14 I have written to you, fathers,
Because you have known Him who is from the beginning.
I have written to you, young men,
Because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you,
And you have overcome the wicked one.

His covenant existed with both the young and the old. Did you know that those who are exempt from the law have no charge in it. The word before you is proof that he existed and accepted both the old (first covenant) and the new.

18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the[c] Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things.[d] 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
22 Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also

Being ignorant of the law, you put it on yourself to preach the gospel of the truth wothout the truth being in you.

24 Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.
26 These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will[e] abide in Him.

Let those who are innocent stay innocent because of your corruption. Where there is no light darkness comes, truly he exists within you.

This I say and testify in The Lord , that ye henceforth walk not as other gentiles walk ,
in the vanity of their mind , having the understanding darkened , being alienated from
the life of God , through the ignorance in them , because of the blindness of their hearts

The Jews were God's chosen people. They were given the Law by God. The Law was given out of love, to keep people from harming one another or harming their relationship with God. Instead of sharing their faith with neighboring nations, they frequently turned to the gods of the neighboring nations. Jews of the Old Testament were saved by their faith in a coming Messiah, and a keeping of the Law and sacrifices made to cover their sins. When Christ died, he did not cover sins but totally washed them away from whoever accepted Him as Savior and rested in His ultimate sacrifice for the washing of sins. From the book of Genesis it speaks of one who will come to redeem mankind.

Salvation is more than believing in his death. Those who lived before him had the promise of Messiah. They believed in a future event; we believe in a past event. Same faith, just different sides of history.

It's not really his death, it's his resurrection.

Unbelievers and believers alike need to read what it is they are talking about. The whole thing means that though we are to die, we will be resurrected.

( Why is everyone talking about death? That's the easy part, everyone dies! You need faith for that?! ROTFLMAO )

Seriously, you guys need to read it before you talk about it! You are making a joke out of yourselves! XD
