A USAF pararescue man's job will verry from assignment to assignment. One constent is that they will always be performing some form of medical expertise.
They attend several schools in training that include: Jump School, Military Free Fall School, Scuba School, SERE (Surivial School), then they will attend a medical school that is simular to being an EMT.
Pararescueman that are deployed to Iraq typically assist with air MEDEVAC of shot down pilots. You will be armed with an M4 and M9 and will be required to defend your paient from any harms way, this include enemy aggressors. Pararescueman in Afghanistan are sometimes scene deploying with US Army Ranger units to assist their medical personnel.

They're basically the airforce's paramedics. They are inserted to retrieve and stabilize a wounded person and bring him to an extraction point or an advanced medical unit. They also can be working with other special operation units in a team or cunduct SAR missions and last but not least help out the NASA if they miss an astronaut.
They do get airborne training with the army and take a scuba course in the airforce with a navy addon.

Before Camp Parks in Dublin CA was surrounded by homes The 129th ANG Rescue would do low, and I mean freaking low, runs in a C130 with the rear open dropping guys on static lines. I only saw it once. We did most drills at Presidio SF. It takes bowling balls to do what I witnessed that morning.

Parachute out of aircraft to rescue downed pilots etc... Yes, you'd use weapons. They are the elite of the AF and about the only group the other services respect from the AF too.

Sometimes they use weapons, sometimes they don't, it depends on who they are rescuing.

they deploy and train with the army....ask a recruiter...it's a great job!...badass
there's also an enlistment bonus for that job...last time I checked it was $18,000
