Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? The Bible teaches potentially two viewpoints: Hell is a burning lake of fire which is safe to assume - it's hot and gives off heat. It also references that Hell it is a separation from God to the outer darkensss. Which I imagine, is very cold. Thoughts?

Being in outer darkness means you are eternally getting the " cold shoulder" from God. It doesn't mean Hell/Outer Darkness will be cold @ all. It will be an eternal, literal lake of fire. "When Hell Freezes Over" is a strange phrase. I don't know the origin. But I have always found it to be an oxymoron.

Some Eastern religions describe a hell that is bitter cold and I tend to imagine the same as you, that hell isn't a physical place but a state of being where you are separated from God.

Hell is a lake of fire and I don't think it'll ever "freeze over." But the Bible doesn't talk about what will happen to hell after all that is revealed in Revelation is completed.

Please don't jump to the wrong conclusion that "outer darkness" is very cold.

People who have 'been to hell & back' (e.g. Mary Baxter in her book "Divine Revelations of Hell") describe "outer darkness" as part of the hot inferno that is hell.

The 'lake of fire' is another story altogether, in another time-frame. After the Last Judgment, those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life will be cast into the lake of fire, forever seperated from God. Hell & Death will also be cast into the lake of fire. This is also known as the 'second death.'

The phrase "when hell freezes over" is meant to denote that such a situation will never happen. Hell will never freeze over!
E.g., when someone says to you, "I will pay you back the money, when hell freezes over!" means "No chance ever! I am not ever going to pay you back your money!"

It's probably which every would be more uncomfortable for the person going there. So if you tend to be bothered by cold, it will be frickin freezing. Constant snow and freezing ice. You will have to shovel your driveway continuously and the store will be perpetually out of rock salt.

Hell is a place of torment. IE not a good place, but not a suffering hole. That is what I get from the Biblical definitions anyways.
