I mean, when you read passages like this, what do you think to yourself?

Numbers 22:28-30, NAS
28 And the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” 29 Then Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now.” 30 And the donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day? Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?” And he said, “No.”

i like how balaam wasn't even fazed that his donkey just talked to him. I know if my dog turned around and said, "stop feeding me this dry food you douche!" I would not respond with, "I am sorry I thought you liked it." I would say "holy **** you just talked!!!"

I see another so called expert coming out of the wood works.
If you would have read the chapter leading to that verse and the story as it ended , you would have gotten the message.
You and I know that a donkey has zero communication skills. Its vocal cords do not allow it to give speech as we know. But Balaam being a jackass of a man and subborn, the angel of God used the donkey to talk with him. The donkey was simply a tool of the angel. And no doubt, the donkey didn't have a clue either of what was going on. The angel of the Lord spoke too in behalf of the doneky to get Balaam's attention.

I'm a Catholic, and everything the Catholic church officially teaches and practices is based on divine truth and simple common sense.

In the passage you cite, the Lord sent an angel to make it appear as if the donkey was speaking.

Any good ventriloquist can do pretty much the same thing.

It's you who should be embarrassed, for asking such a dumb question.

An all powerful God who spoke the universes into existence, could not speak through a dumb animal? Even Eddie Murphy was able to pull it off and caused it to appear that a donkey was actually speaking by his own will.

If you were not confounded by the first paragraph in Genesis, then this story would not appear so ASSinine to you.

Just out of total curiosity, why did you direct your diatribe to Christians? The passage you quote is considered Scripture by a number of other religions.

I see it as an important lesson in humility. Namely that often times things that appear bad happen for your benefit.

I try to learn what I can from the word around me.
Why to you feel need to ridicule what you do not agree with?

Was Orwell embarassed by Animal Farm?
You've honestly never heard of a talking animal story? You can't think of any stories that use talking animals as a metaphor?

It makes perfect sense to me. Alma(a female name/person) referred to as a man in the Book Of Mormon is embarrassing.Telling millions of Catholics they can pray their loved ones out of Purgatory is embarrassing. There is no mention of purgatory in the Bible. Believing in a big,fat idol called Buddha is embarrassing. The Word of God says there is but one God. The Bible also says anyone who adds to the Bible the plagues will be added to him.Likewise, one who takes away from the Word of God will be taken out of the book of life(damned).
