I understand what you're asking and it makes sesne.

Water with a small (I mean SMALL) amount of salt might be similar to saline solution which is so gentle, contact lens wearers use it to store their contact lenses.

Also, people use salt water solution to rinse stitches inside the mouth.

I guess it may even help a wound if you're in the field, but you definitely would have to dilute it ALOTwith water.

But I kinda agree with the medics or corpsmen taking care of stuff like that.

You may even want to pose this question on the "medical" section on Yahoo Answers instead of under "Military". I bet you'd get better answers there.

I will never forget First Aid training in Basic. A SSG was showing us how to use a bandoleer to contain a guys intestines and keep the from falling out after a severe belly wound. he starts talking about "How some of you morons may have heard that urine is sterile". He goes on how 1" of contaminated intestine must have 6" in both directions removed and then says "If you ever find me on a battle field with my guts hanging out and you piss on them to clean them you damn sure better hope I do not live to come after your dumb butt"

Go ahead pour salt on the wound. Make sure he can never find you.
