You would use a high temperature cooking oil like, Canola Oil. You baste the turkey before and during the cooking process to keep the skin and meat from drying out. To baste, you can rub the raw, thawed turkey with the oil, place it in the oven and every once in a while pull the oven shelf out, the one holding the turkey and use a brush (similar to a paint brush but only it is for use with food only) or a Baster (it is a long metal or plastic tube with a tapered end on one end and a squeezy ball on the other end) you squeeze the ball end, stick the other end in the juices in the bottom of the pan and the unsqueeze the ball end to suck up the juice. Then carefully squeeze it over the turkey. By placing liquid on it during cooking it will keep it from drying out.
Good Luck and happy Thanksgiving!

Sure use oil out of the car, if your The Three Stooges, hope your not hosting the family meal. Then fill up the car with vegetable oil, may be better for the environment.

Obviously, it means cooking oil;-} motor oil is poisonous!
It's to prevent the skin from drying out, & turns it golden.
