I had the check engine light come on yesterday along with my check oil light after driving for about an hour. I checked the oil level and it was fine. Then I parked and came back about 7 hours later and notice that my dome light was on. I had to drive another 2 hours or so with the dome light on.

Now even after I shut the car off the light stays on. I've made sure all of the doors were shut, unplugged the battery, and everything. Any suggestions?

A dome light staying on is typically caused by a faulty door switch. However, there are instances where the wiring or generic electronic module (GEM) are bad. The only way to have this issue taken care of is to have the vehicle diagnosed. Otherwise you might end up just dumping money into unnecassary parts. For a temporary quick fix, you can remove the "accessory delay" relay underneath the drivers side dash and this will kill power to the dome lamp. Unfortonately, you will also lose power locks/windows too.

I have a 96 Taurus. Check you dimmer switch. On 96 it''s skinny dial next to headlight switch. Make sure you didn't accidentally moved that dial to turn your dome light on.
As for your engine light, I was told that my catalytic converter needed replace and a few other things, over $800. A piece of paper covering the light works wonders. As long as your oil and other fluids are good, the enging is running smooth, I wouldn't worry about the engine light.

IIt may just be a loose fuse, I'd attempt pushing all fuses in tightly. before spending a fortune, if not I agree to save the hassle and go to the closest autozone to get a diagnostics report. The Catalic Converter is not the problem, and has nothing to do with the electronics so don;t aticipate having to spend $800 on that, they don;t cost that much anyway. (usally $200-$500)

put some wd40 on the door latch, it worked for me.. but i dont think its related to your check engine light, u might wanna check the oil level again when cold. or just go to your nearest autozone and get it scan, the code should be stored in the memory... =) buy a wd40 bottle at autozone and at the same time have ur car scaned it's free and quick, do not ignore the check engine light
