your Question my sweet friend , is an Oxymoron!

where is the sense in torturing a good person? - exactly!

That gives you one more excellent point not to worship this Christian God even if he would exist!

point being, he is a self centered evil God ,like a dictator

meeeee or nothing else - OR ELSE! HA ,no thank you!

SO I CHOSSE TO DO GOOD ,AND BE A HUMANITARIAN AS THERE IS NO " I" IN "WE"!
AND WEEEE ARE ALL IN THE SAME POT!

love and peace be with you !

No one can. Simply because, there is NOWHERE in the Bible that says that God will torture anyone, good or evil, for eternity. Yes, He will destroy the wicked (2 Thess. 2:8). For otherwise they will continue to perpetuate sin and evil, and thus sorrow, pain and death. But, the Bible teaches that they will be utterly destroyed - not tortured for eternity (Malachi 4:3)

Oh, I know there will be those who will cite verses speaking of eternal or unquenchable fire. However, the Bible speaks of the fire which destroyed Sodom and Gomorrha as eternal. (Jude 7. Jude is a 1 chap. book just before Revelation) Are they still burning today? Of course not! The results were eternal. Even today, if I tell you of an unquenchable fire, you know it burned until there was no more to burn.

John 3: 16 tells us that "God so loved the world (and that includes you and every person who has ever lived!) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever (any one) believeth on Him should not perish (to die, no longer exist) but have everlasting life."

I have found Jesus Christ to be a loving and merciful Saviour, "not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance"! (2 Peter 3:9) And when Jesus says all, He means all!

It does'nt make sense. Ancient civilizations—such as the Aztecs, the Canaanites, the Incas, and the Phoenicians—are infamous for the practice of child sacrifice. Excavations in the Phoenician city of Carthage (now a suburb of Tunis, North Africa) revealed that between the fifth and the third centuries B.C.E., as many as 20,000 children were sacrificed to the god Baal and the goddess Tanit! This number is all the more shocking when one bears in mind that in its heyday Carthage was said to have a population of only about 250,000.

Explain to me where you got the notion that a good person would be tortured for eternity? God forgives and forgives realizing that His creation, with his own will, blew his relation with Him. So He's not going to torture anyone, unless that is what you want. Perfection knows only Perfection. Perfection is Good (from old English God) and only knows Good. There is no correct god story. God reveals Himself to us in a way we each can understand Him. Keep on truckin' yee good person who will not be tortured for eternity.

Happy Turkey Day!

Greetings!

Well, even a murderer, possess the light of God, in there heart. We are all created from the good stuff. God doesn't make trash or garbage.

A person that is in hell, is in a serious state of confusion about life. Who they are, what and where they come from; and where they are yet to go, in this lifetime. So, the hell is not a place in the ground. Hell is a state of mind. Again, please don't blame God for your misunderstandings! God is our Constant Companion, Friend, and always cheering us on to know that we are a piece of the One; and that because God is good we are inherently Good as well.

Your relationship with God is in your heart. God doesn't care what stories we come up with to explain WHY we are here...as long as we are showing God off and bringing Joy into our life and to others, we will win. When we win, God wins also. The prize is experiences!

Until next time,

blessings

first, i appreciate the way you asked the question. it seems if we approach a subject, especially a truth claim, we must approach it with an open mind. we must strive to get behind the eyes of the other person. i think you have to first ask, why believe the bible at all. i've been convinced through the evidence that the bible is the most reliable work of antiquity known. because of the evidence i trust that the bible is truthful for all times and all peoples. if i asked you whether or not you would rather honesty or dishonesty in our society, your bank, your employer, your girlfriend/wife i'm positive you would reply, honesty. i appreciate the honesty i see in the bible about me and about other people. when i look at the other possible worldviews i find that the bible is the most reflective of reality. i think ryan h and david t have made a couple of good points, but, i would like to add another perspective. the bible says that GOD is just and faithful. therefore, we can trust that HE will ratify our decisions of this life. so, the bible tells us ahead of time that if we choose not to accept HIS presence in this world then HE will not force us to be in his presence for eternity. for this would be hell. now its one thing feel that it's unfortunate that there are only two possible destinations in eternity. but, it is also unfortunate that i can't play football like payton, or baseball like albert. but, this does not alter the reality that i can't. we are finite and GOD is infinite. therefore, we couldn't possibly understand fully, in this life, the word of GOD. but, i think it's wonderful that GOD expects us to ask questions, indeed desires we ask of HIM what we want to know about HIM. just remember to ask a question with the desire and intent to understand as opposed to asking a question sarcasically, never with a desire to be open-minded. i pray that you are open to seeking the truth.

You ask a valid question. I'll give you a valid answer. No such thing as a good person (excluding infants of course). You're behavior with others is part of the answer. Your behavior towards God is the other half.
You can't break into another man's house and say I am going to live here. You can live there if he tells you, these are the conditions on which I will allow you to live here. Then you can enter. And and act of rebellion even against God disqualifies to claim any right into his house. If God is not in your plans, what makes you think you should be in his?

Could it be that they are wrong? Hello!!!!
Fundamentalists are everything they tell you about God. They want people to go to hell. They want people to be tortured for eternity. All they are doing in their religion is blaming it all on God, who you cant see and cant ask if its true. You see, fundamentalists are BETTER than God. They would never send anyone to hell to be tortured - oh no, God forbid. They are nice. They love their neighbors and relatives - even the unsaved ones. It's God who is a bastard and is going to send everyone to burn.
Wake up all of you. Don't believe it and certainly don't pass it on. It's a mean nasty story that only Hitler might love.

It is not right, true or sensible. The Bible requires life for life, soul for soul, stripe for stripe, etc.

A human can only live say 100 years or so at most.....if they committed horrible sins every moment of their life, they could never merit eternal punishment.

Romans 6:23 and many other verses show the wages sin pays is death. An eternal second death is the punishment for sin, not eternal life in pain.

Jews don't believe in the immortal soul doctrine or in hellfire. It is a teaching the RC church put into religion along with trinity and such in the 4th century and later. Hence, Jews never adopted it.

The word and idea never appears in the Greek septuagint (Greek copy of OT used by people in Jesus day).

You cannot understand spiritual things without the Holy Spirit. You have to accept Jesus into your heart to have the Holy Spirit live inside of you. That is why it is so difficult to believe that people that seem good go to hell, but they make the choice. The Holy Spirit speaks to everyone that is alive and tells them about Jesus. Before you die, you will know without a doubt that you need to accept Jesus. This comes at different times for everyone. You then have the choice, to accept him or go to hell. People that are now in hell have made their choice. I hope this helps. Have a great Thanksgiving!
