Does anyone truly know what the number 666 means?

For the past three days, the number 666 has been appearing every where I look. I'm NOT looking for it but an unknown phone number has been appearing on my cell with the last 3 digits of 666. I made a purchase, amount $6.66. I was driving to school the license plate in from of me had the last 3 digits 666. If there are any pastors who can answer this, It would be greatly appreciated

It is because your mind places a greater significance on this series. You believe you are seeing them over and over again, but you are merely placing more significance on them so you remember these numbers when they pop up, but pay no attention to the thousands of other series of numbers when they appear (some of which also invariably appear multiple times if you were to look for them).

The number 666 is not a simple subject.

But I will list a few of the more common meanings:

1) The number 666 primarily means "the perfection of Physical form".
- this is not a statement of spiritual perfection, but physical perfection, representing a certain balance in the mind, body, and emotions.
- a spiritually immature but physically perfected being, with spiritual power, may become an absolute monster or beast.
2) the number 666 is experienced generally when a person is starting to spiritually awaken, ( being born of the spirit - in christian terms). This is considered a form of Initiation when a person experiences this form of tranformation to a higher level of existence.
3) This may mean that your spiritual light is starting to shine more brightly, unfortunately it also means that you may be a target of negitive spiritual entities.
4) the number 666 is represented by the shape of the circle representing the perfection of physical form, the circle as such is the symbol of the devil even as the square or cube is the symbol of God the creator.
5) the deliberate use of the number 666 may attract Satan - an extremely dark and seethingly hateful being - not recommended!
6) the number 666 is the number representing the antichrist that is lucifer, the living human manifestation or only begotten son of Satan.
7) the number 666 is the number of the antichrist system

Some believe that 666 is the mark of the Biblical antichrist. Others say that it signifies some form of compulsory identification, such as a tattoo or an implanted microchip with a digital code that identifies the person as a servant of the beast. Still others hold that 666 is the mark of the Catholic papacy. Substituting Roman numerals for the letters in a form of the pope’s official title, Vicarius Filii Dei (Vicar of the Son of God), and manipulating the figures a little, they come up with 666. It is also claimed that the same number can be calculated from the Latin name of Roman Emperor Diocletian and from the Hebrew version of the name Nero Caesar.

These fanciful and contrived interpretations, however, are very different from what the Bible itself says about the mark of the beast.

In the Scriptures, certain numbers have symbolic significance. The number seven, for example, is often used to symbolize that which is complete, or perfect, in God’s eyes. For instance, God’s creative week comprises seven ‘days,’ or extended time periods, during which God completely accomplishes his creative purpose regarding the earth. (Genesis 1:3–2:3) God’s “sayings” are like silver that has been “clarified seven times,” thus perfectly refined. (Psalm 12:6; Proverbs 30:5, 6) The leper Naaman was told to bathe seven times in the Jordan River, after which he was completely healed.—2 Kings 5:10, 14.

Six is one short of seven. Would it not be a fitting symbol of something imperfect, or defective, in God’s eyes? Yes, indeed! (1 Chronicles 20:6, 7) Moreover, six repeated three times, as 666, powerfully stresses that imperfection. That this is the correct view is supported by the fact that 666 is “a human number,” as we have considered. Thus, the beast’s record, its “human number,” and the number 666 itself all point to one unmistakable conclusion—gross shortcoming and failure in the eyes of God.

In numerology, numbers in a sequence are broken down. So take 6 + 6 + 6 and you get 18. Then 1 + 8 = 9. Instead of getting riled up over 666, I would look at that angle myself.

First, it is important to realize that Jewish religion often used numbers as a way of teaching or illustrating religious concepts. Next you need to understand that Revelations is prophecy and the way that christian prophecy works is that you don't understand it until nearly after the event has happened. Third, there is no real spiritual significance to numbers and in all likelihood the mark of the beast will require some affirmation against god in order to receive it.

I wasn't going to press the issue and was just trying to ease your mind. But, Revelations was not written by the apostle John but a later Saint John who was slightly not quite all there and had a major "Axe to grind" with Rome. This is why Nero adding up to 666 is significant, as it helps to show that Revelations was written specifically about Rome and not the end times.

No matter how you twist it around, it still comes out 666. Turn it upside down as 999, read it left to right, right to left and even place the middle six as first and as last, and you still get 666. The devil cannot change himself anymore. Don't let it frighten you since Jesus has already conquered satan. Laugh at yourself now and don't let him get to you. Tell Jesus on him.

That's most likely a coincidence. The number 666 is the personal number of the Beast of Revelation who will come in the last days and deceive the world. We don't know who he is yet or if he has even been born.

It is the mark of the Beast, and many of us had it already!! It is to be interpreted spiritually / allegorically.

Most professing christians believe it to be literal - namely the rapturists (I am an ex-rapturist). "666" arise from the false understand by the Pre-mill dispensationalism exposition of the book of Revelation. It stirs the flesh to seek a non-event, the rapture; while many forget to seek that which is most important in Christianity - the forgiveness of sins and salvation of their souls!
