We just got this cat yesterday and I will be petting her on her head really gently and she will bit me and claw me and then hiss at me. Last night she gave me this glare that was kinda freaky. Is she playing or should I get rid of her? I can't take this everyday.

first thing dont you dare get rid of her or she will do it even more the first possibiolity is a simple headache and when you pet her head it hurt her and the second possibility is she has some other serious illness and most likely needs to be seen by a vet please get her looked at she also just might not be used to you and be scared of you so take it easy
good luck

Um. You got the cat yesterday! If some stranger came up to you and started touching you in ways you weren't comfortable with you would tell them to stop. This is all the cat is saying.

Try making friends with the cat bfore you expect her to accept your caress. I have one cat that is an ex feral. She spent the first month in my house hiding under the bed only coming out to eat. It was almost a year before she took to enjoying pets. Find out what her favorite treat is, most cats love ham and chicken.

Try and see things from her point of view, being in a new place surrounded by strangers. If you feel you don't want to take the time for this then please return her to the person you got her from as she will be better off in the long run.

You have to teach her mannare, plain and simple.
When she bites you, pick her up, straight into a small room where she is on her own and time out for about an hour, every time or if it's your finger, press down gently onto her tongue with your finger.
Do not play with her with your hands at all, that's how the problem got caused to begin with.
There is no difference between this and a naughty child, no reason to abandon her, simply reinforce the good behaviour and discourage the bad, cat's aren't dumb, they learn fast.

she's unsure of herself with you and afraid. give her some time and understand what to do. I tend to almost ignore new animals until they get their footing and are interested in coming to me. while you have to establish dominance in cats and dogs, a fearful animal will respond negatively to touching and often eye contact.

try reading here, a couple very good sites:

I assume you have established that the cat is not in any pain as in a developing abcess or mouth problems? The hissing is definitely fear.

Since this cat is new to you and your house, just leave her alone for awhile! She needs time to adjust to her new environment/people. The best thing for you to do, is.....sit down on the floor (her level), and read or watch tv! You can TALK to her, and play w/a toy, but do NOT try to touch her. When SHE's ready, she'll come to YOU. Patience is the "operative" word, here. She won't bite/claw you if you don't pester her. Let it be HER idea to come to you. Given time, she will, and she'll be the cuddler that you're looking for. Good luck.............PATIENCE !!!!!!!!!!

Maybe he does not detect he is been "constant" Male cats will chunk ladies at the again of the neck in the course of the breeding simply to keep the feminine nonetheless. The 'chunk' does no longer holiday the epidermis.
