It seems to me that there are many different messages being preached and taught in churches today and the true Gospel of Jesus Christ is rarely taught. Today it seems most churches preach decisionism, prosperity, how to become a better person, how to work your way to earn salvation, how to aviod the fires of hell, and how to get that free ticket to Heaven. Very rarely do you hear messages about repentance, turning away from the wrong doings of the world, becoming a New Creation in Christ and being led by the Spirit. I have been learning Greek and my first translation project is on the book of Galatians. I have also done historical, cultural studies on the first century when this was written. I found that the message Paul wrote to the Galatians is what we need to day. Many churches have deserted the true Gospel and have been lured to other messages. Does anybody know what I am saying? What are your thoughts?

Yeah, you are right. Far too many churches attempt to model after Saddle Back or Willow Creek. Seems like everyone wants to grow a large church and fill it with fun seekers.

Let me guess--you are either Baptist, Presbyterian, or Bible Church.

Yes, The watered down gospel of today of most churches does nothing but give people false hope. There are some churches that do still preach the word though. The small chapel I attend has a traditional service rarely seen. We sing Hymns and choruses without the benefit of strobe ligths, power point, or electric music. We use the dieing relics of Hymn books and a piano. The sermon lasts no less than an hour and usually closer to 2 hours. Eyes water up to convicting messages and the spirit of God is present during prayer. A bible is seen in the hand of every person as they come thru the door. The sad thing is there is only a handfull of people in the congregation. The pastor and deacons have opted to not join a large local worldly mega church who promises to have the pews packed and the coffers overflowing immediately upon hanging their shingle over the door. We are praying for true revival brought about by the persecution of God's people to fill God's house, not the modern seeker sensitive secular sales tactics employed in building huge buildings and large congregations. These are the days spoken of in the word...

2 Timothy 4:3 -4 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

2 Peter 3:3-7 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

Keep on studying and pray as you go. But studying Greek and never speaking it as is also done with Hebrew can really get you in a very big mess. Do you think that you have to get to the root word etc. to get what Jesus was saying? You seem to be stuck in what Paul's letter to the Galatians said; all the while reading an English bible and most likely studying other theological views on top of that. I know that you are zealous about your beliefs and frustration can arise when your focus is into proving something or communicating your beliefs. But remember that the use of the words 'true gospel' are often stated on the basis of proving others as wrong.
The Good News or God breathed testimony (gospel), is not limited to two thousand year old history. Revelation comes from that Spirit that you mentioned. I could even guess by your writing what denominational belief system your lean towards.
Serve! Allow God to use what you have learned in service toward others in real world maters. I agree about repentance and turning form sin. Decisionism? (you will have to communicate that to me) Prosperity is most certainly taught in the Bible. The word 'peace' - you should really look that up in its' entiretyin Hebrew. I hope your hunger continues but that you put into actions your faith to a world that needs it.

Yea. I do and agree. The gospels are being diluted because it is inconvenient. Hardly anyone speaks about hell. No one wants to hear it is not easy being a Christian. It just doesn't appeal to the masses who are looking for a feel good experience at church. Paul addressed the problem of false prophets/teaching infiltrating the church in Colossians. The Colossians stood firm and followed Christ's teaching when all the others, began to fall away. Written what, almost 2000 years ago and it is relevant today. May Jesus have mercy on our souls for we know not what we do. Peace be with you.

Jesus said the "kingdom" was "at hand". This means that it was to soon be established. Jesus also said, "And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there be some of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power." (Mark 9:1, Matthew 16:8, Luke 9:27) If we are still waiting for the kingdom to come, then there are some who were alive with Jesus that are still alive now! Where are these 2000 year old people? The kingdom is here! The kingdom is the church. There are many passages that use the words "church" and "kingdom" interchangably. This kingdom came with power (Acts 2)! Also, all verses in the New Testament that talk about the kingdom use future tense before the church was established in Acts 2. After Acts 2, the kingdom is spoken of in present tense. Colossians 1:13 says, "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:" How can we have been translated into something that did not yet exist? Finally, Christ is currently a king! A king must have a kingdom! Christ's kingdom has been established! Christ is the head of the church, his kingdom (Eph. 1:22-23).

ive been to many many churches and ive had issues with almost all of them because it just seems like the churches these days are so messed up

i mean for example (i live in las vegas by the way so im not too surprised)

but every morning i drive by this church and there is actually an ATM machine built into the outside wall of the building!

im discusted.

and i think youre right about what is preached. i think that churches should teach about how to be a better person, but they should also teach the gospel because...well hello... arent we supposed to be worshiping god?

my church teaches a combination of the two and i think its great. i just wish other churches would do the same, and not worry so much about how much money they get from their visiters.

I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ , unto another gospel
which is not another , but there are some that trouble you and would pervert the gospel of Christ
But though we , or an angel from Heaven preach any other gospel , let him be accursed

Our pastor tries to preach according to how much time the Bible spends on a topic. It's not like you can repeat the same message week in and week out without having people feel that they are not being fed. Once you have the basics, you really NEED to go on to the meat of the Scriptures.

Of course, I believe the theological term is "postmodernism"; a friend made a good observation to me recently when he said he basically went to a "concert" (church); of course this is a sugar coated, make you feel good gospel almost always and will continue to domino and sharply increase; usually mockery, untruth or half-truths and far from the still waters (gospel) Jesus leads His sheep beside.

The Bible is a life application Book.

The beauty of the Bible is that it is living, and always up to date.

It never dies off or becomes too "old-fashioned".

So there is nothing wrong in applying the principles of the Bible to our modern life!

Principles in making decisions, principles in doing a business (being honest, tithing, blessing God's name, building His Kingdom), principles in becoming a better person so as to glorify God and bring ourselves closer to Christ.

Jesus used a lot of parables, relating to life in those times too. He did not just say, "REPENT!!!! FOR GOD WILL SAVE YOU!!!". He did use examples of farmers, or fishermen, of how they make decisions in their lives. then he derived principles to teach the masses.

so what is so wrong about preaching decisionism, prosperity, becoming a good person etc, if all the principles preached are derived from biblical understanding?
