They ask because they want to give you the appropriate care for your circumstances. If you are sexually active, then you are in need of regular pap smears for the cervical cancer virus etc.. If you smoke you need to have your lungs monitored, but you would probably be in for a lecture, depending on the doctor. That's why they ask those questions. They are probably also interested in your emotional well being.
You can't get in any trouble, there is no law against it, but you aren't helping yourself. I would request to have your appointment without your mother when you feel ready to discus your sex life. They aren't going to judge you and I don't know if they can tell your mom or not.

no you can't get in trouble for lying other than a doctor refusing to see you again. You should be telling the truth because the things you are doing could potentially cause illnesses later on and they need to know how long you've been doing what you have been doing. If they found out you lied they may tell your mom if you are underage and they fill it is a danger to you. They care because they are doctors and those are really important questions to ask. If lets say you get sick or get a disease or illness they need to know the answers to those questions to rule out or come to a conclusion. So lets say if you always are coughing but you say you don't smoke they may just treat you with an antibotic instead of maybe needing to run other tests to see if it's something more serious such as cancer, etc... also can have an affect if you have asthma... i lied and told my doctor i stopped smoking when i didn't before i had surgery... man did i pay for that lie when i had to recover from surgery! Starting to tell the truth won't be so bad as you think... but it'll be helpful for the future.

If you are sexually active, you might be pregnant and certain drugs will damage a fetus. If you are sexually active, you may have an STD and if the doctor looks at a problem you have and it could be STD or something much more serious, you might get expensive treatments or diagnostics based on your lie. If you are taking alcohol regularly a number of drugs including antibiotics are disabled by alcohol. If you are doing drugs, the interaction with your medicines may poison you, disable the medicines, or produce other complications.
If you are old enough to do all that stuff, then you should be old enough to ask the doctor to get your mother out of the room and explain in private why you don't want her there. If you don't trust your (or your mother's) current doctor to maintain your privacy, you are going to have to look for one who will.

Most people lie about small things when they see their doctor..."Yes, I'm trying to quit smoking, Yes, I'm taking a multivitamin, No, I'm not eating fast food"...All these things aren't good to lie about, but they're pretty harmless.
First of all, he shouldn't have asked you those questions in front of your mother, even though you're "young". It's doctor/patient privilege, no matter what your age. Unless he thought you were hurting yourself, or hurting someone else, he didn't have to disclose anything.
Yes, you probably would have gotten a little lecture, but those things he asked you are very important, and he needed an honest answer in order to help you out. I would go for an appointment with someone you can trust, that way you can be tested for std's and given a pap smear, which is necessary once you become sexually active. It's very important, no matter how embarassing.

lying to the doctor is bad because if he believes your answers he might not consider the right illness for your symptoms .
Depending on your age and where you live the Doctor is NOT able to tell your parents about your answers to questions about sexual activity, I dont know about the rest.
You should ask your mom to wait outside for part or all of the exam . Have her come back in when the Doctor explains the treatment he wants to give you .

I guess you must be quite young if your Mom was with you. Difficiult to tell the truth with your Mom there, I agaree. But if your doctor doesn't know the truth, he can't ensure that you get the best advice and care. I advise you to go to a free walk in clinic to talk to a doctor alone if you have things you need to talk about.

Technically, you can't get in trouble.
But your doctor can't help you to his full potential if you're lying. If you are sexually active, he needs to make sure you're STD free and your woman-works are healthy enough to be having sex. If you're doing drugs, they may interact with any prescriptions you're on and could really mess your life (and body) up. Smoking, in general, is just bad for you. And it's totally not cool.
Everything you say to your doctor is legally confidential, and you can check before you decide to open up to him.
But as an understanding friend, all I can tell you is to trust your doctor at least with the sexual information. Sex is fun, but it's scary, too. Let him help you understand what the consequences of sexual activity are and for God's sake, get the HPV vaccine!
Good luck and be safe, girl!

Well I probably would of did the same if my mom was in the room...if she wasn't I would of fessed up to the sexually active part since you should get tested for any stds and get a pap done as well to test for any changes in the cervix or infections. And no your doctor cannot tell your mom, it's a doctor/patient privacy and between you two.

You wont get in trouble, and if you tell them privately and your at least 14, they arent allowed to tell your parents without your permission. But it does matter because they can help and they wont judge you. But they could prescribe you something that is harmful with the things you do, they have reasons for those questions. You should go back and tell them the truth.

Yes that is bad. How is your doc supposed to treat you if he doesn't know the truth???? No they will not tell your parents as it is confidential what goes on in the docs office, You need to call your docs office back and tell him you lied and tell him the truth so your medical records are acurate. What happens if you end up in the hospital with something serious and they pull up your old records and it says Not sexually active so they start doing thing certain things or giving you certain things and you were pregnant and didn't know it. Your life is at stake here. You need to grow up and start using your head a little. What you could put your life in danger.
