This may seem like an odd or even stupid question, but I am thinking about adopting another cat, and i was wondering if I need to get it a separate litter box from my other cat?

You really need to have more than one litter tray and make sure they are not too close to each other.

Not being comfortable going to the toilet can cause urinary tract infections in cats. You won't always know that your cat has a mild infection for years until a lot of damage has been done to the bladder.

Your cats may seem ok with sharing a tray, but I'm pretty sure they'd be happier if they had a choice.

You probably don't HAVE to, but it wouldn't hurt. The "rule of thumb" on litter boxes is.......1 per cat + 1 extra. If you have as many cats as I do....10 in the house....you can't have 11 littterboxes. But, I do have 7. That way, they don't have to "stand in line" or chase somebody out, when the next one wants "to go"! It's really up to you and what will work in your house. Good luck................

It's best ot have at least 2 litterboxes separated from each other. That way the kitties can't block access to them both at the same time! And clean them out twice a day!

They will learn to share one litter box. Thats perfectly fine. You should just clean it more often. I had 3 cats using one box before. It was a large one and I would clean it out every other day.

Yeah, I would. Cats usually don't like sharing litterboxes. Unless your current cat doesn't mind another cat entering its territory.

You really do not have to but it would be nice if you did it until they are getting along with each other.
