I haven't done any sit ups or anything else in the past week or two, so why is this happening? When I am laying down, when I try to raise straight up, i can't because my abs hurt so much. And my shoulder is sore too. I do have weight lifting but I havent lifted since Friday, and on Saturday nor Sunday did I have these pains. Does anyone know what they are from?

To the first person that answered; I looked all that up on Wikipedia; it is not caused by what you said; its caused by putting too much pressure on a certain part of your body...and I did do that on Friday, so yeah.

I can recall attending Pilate's where we did Ab workout. I only went one hour per week but found after the hour I needed to go to bed and sleep. I have Arthritis. That would be Wednesday. Thursday no problem felt pretty good and tight! Friday OMG who kicked me? Saturday it started to wear off. I do not know about lactic acid build up, outside of long distance running. For me I felt as if the exercise on Wednesday have some form of euphoric affect, so perhaps my body manufactured extra pain killing endorphins, because I felt so good Thursday, almost high! However Friday was the low point, I assume because the body had rid itself of the endorphins and I was now certainly in pain and feeling low.

Sounds like lactic acid build up. It usually takes a few days after exercising to hit it's peak. Warm baths, heat rubs will help with the pain and stretching the area will help disperse the lactic acid.

Agree on a warm bath and add some epsom salt.

Abs are easy to pull and take a long time to heal. Go easy on them!
