I own a 6 month old Sony Bravia HDTV with built-in tuner. I have read several similar question/anwers and can't seem to get a proper hold on this subject. I too have had salesman try to sell me "S" video cables/audio cables/HD rabbit ears/etc with nothing helping. They basically tell me to contact rabbit ears up to satelite box and I'm good to go (does not work). Should I be able to view "available in HD" shows with these magic ears? Do I need to change to a certain channel? According to antennaweb.org I live no more than 20 miles from the most distant tower and I have flat terrain around my home in West Texas. How do I get the local ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX chennels in HD? Please provide specific details.

To sirbobx,
I can't e-mail you but I have further questions. I don't believe my television has this "antenna 1" input, could it be called something else. Also I do not currently watch my local channels through regular television as I watch them through the Dish Network box. I can only get 2 out of the 4 local channels if I simply go through the television. Further, how would you get the remote to read the "antenna 1" input anyways? Are you talking about using the orginal television remote or the dish remote that runs both the tv and box? Once again, thank you for your time and Happy Thanksgiving.

U da man, thank you as well, but more questions. Once again, I can't plug an antenna into my tv as it has no other place to plug anything into rather than the cable. I've tried your suggestion, unplug cable and plug in antenna and tuning my tv. I only pick up 2 or 3 channels and quality is horrible. I've gone to antennaweb site to gotten the HD version of the local channels and can get no where. Nothing will come in at all on the supposed HD channels? How do I get to these 12-1 or 12-2 channels they speak of. Remeber, I am trying to run of of AIR not cable.
Basic line, I've unplugged everything accept power to tv and rabbit ear antenna to back of tv and run auto tune on tv and it comes up with 3 of 4 local channels and images are snowy. What's my next step to try?

first of all, check antenna web and see what frequency each station is broadcasting, either VHF or UHF. The rabbit ears will only pick up VHF, you can go to radio shack and buy a raydar gun shaped antenna and do fine. Just plug the antenna into your TV, and setup the scan to find the channels. Also look on antenna web to see where to point the antenna

Plug the rabbit ears into the TV into the "Antenna 1" input on the back of the TV.

Use the TV remote to see the "Antenna 1" input.

Use the TV remote to go to the channel setup screen and have the TV scan for stations.

Thats about it.

You may need to turn the ears and re-scan to point things at the largest cluster of broadcast towers.

Another thing: the "Phillips Silver Sensor" is a great indoor antenna for about $30. I have loaned mine to 4 people at work, and they have run out to buy their own after seeing how well it pulls in stations.
