It is never the aircraft that matters...
The F-18 was designed to replace the F-14. The F-22 replaces the F-15.
The aircraft is only as good as its pilot.

Everything is relative when it comes to "advanced" aircraft. For instance, in a fair fight, the F-22 would have its hands full with the Eurofighter Typhoon or Sukhoi 35. All three have thrust vectoring and look-down, shoot-down capability.
But then again, the whole reason for advanced technology is to make the fight as unfair as possible in your favor. In a turning fight within visual range, the Sukhoi has the advantage, but not because of the airframe. The Russian heat-seaking dogfight missile, the Arrow, has a helmet sight that lets the pilot lock on without even pointing the nose of the aircraft at his opponent. No western fighter has that capability, and no level of stealth technology can erase a jet fighter's heat signature.
At range, the Typhoon and Sukhoi are evenly matched, with the Typhoon having a slight advantage in radar. The F-22 wins here because the other two can't even see the blasted thing beyond visual range because of its stealth features. After all, you can't hit what you can't see. If we're judging purely on radar capability, then the F-14 wins because it's radar can track and lock a target in excess of 180 nautical miles away.
The sad part is, all the technology in the world means nothing if the airplane can't turn and fight. Believe it or not, in a full-on turning dogfight, a P-51 would out-turn any modern fighter, simply because it's slower.
Now that I've danced around the question a bit, the most advanced fighter in the world is arguably the F-22. It carries the same type of radar suite as the F-15 (which was so good not a single airframe was lost to combat), and was designed to elude radar, both airborne and ground-based, which gives it a first-look, first-shot, first-kill advantage.

Well first, Einstein, the B-2 cost right around $2.2billion a copy and had a life expectancy cost of about $2.1billion, for a total cost per of $4.3billion. Very costly but not $156billion each. Secondly, you need to run for king of the country since you obviously can see into the future and determine who will threaten the country for the next 50 years. Wow, you are smart! North Korea, Iran, China, Saudi Arabia, are you sure we won't be challenged by them? Do you know for sure what equipment they have? Our relations with Russia aren't exactly friendly. I'm no hawk and I certainly am not a Bush supporter. But the vast majority of our defense equipment is there for the "what if" scenario. Look how poorly prepared for fighting in Afghanistan we were. Get your facts straight and open your eyes.

The F(A) (there are two versions - one Air Force and one Navy/Marine) 22 Raptor. It is to replace the Air Force F15's and the Navy F14's. The FA35 joint strike fighter will fill other mission specific slots and the F30 test bed will further advance vector thrust technology, but the Raptor currently has no competition.

I hate to say it, but it's the Russian SU-30MK "Flanker" Complete with vectored thrust and canards, this aircraft can perform maneuvers which are mindboggling. Assuming the onboard EWS are anywhere equal to what the West has, this aircraft would be almost unbeatable air to air. Go to SU-30.wmv for a film clip.

I am going to have to say the delta flyer. I mean, c'mon. Borg regenerative shielding, plasma weaponry, and the ability to go I believe warp 6.
Didnt mean including sci-fi? Then I believe that Britain has created the newest and best fighter just a few months ago, but the name escapes me.

The one that replaced the SR-71. But nobody knows what that is just now.
